Vortex Binoculars

I looked through a few pairs recently including vortex crossfires. Bought some Nikon Prostaff 3S 10x in the end and very happy with them. Much clearer than all of the others I looked through except for the Swaros, and found them for a good price too.
Re magnification, 8x gives you a wider FOV but I always find 8x to not be enough mag when I want to really examine what I’m looking at.

Only one way to try Dave, you must look through them yourself !!!
I spent over an hour and a half choosing mine curtsey of Swillies and not at midday but in the evening light !
Distance is another factor, 50/100 yards or a mile ?
Qualitry counts at long range and in poor light as does time of year/seasons/weather conditions.

Me, I went for 8x42 but its entirely up to you !

Anyone have these ?

Looking at the Crossfire range. What would you guys with binocular experience recommend for general use and maybe a bit of use hunting, 8x42 or 10x42 ?
I have a set of 8x and they suit me just fine, in all honesty I don’t think going to a 10x would be a huge difference

What make and model did you buy John ?

I think @milek is the person to ask for Bins advice....
For what it's worth Rick, lately I have seen the advances in glass from the makers not considered as "alpha" grade and I can honestly say they are so close in comparison that it's hard to justify the money for the big three. I had a pair of Swarovski NL that were outclassed by my Swarovski EL. My Leica Noctivid were superb until I realised I could resolve a Greylag goose at a greater distance with a pair of Hawke Sapphire's. I felt cheated having forked out over two grand for them. Yes, they had better low light performance and gave a truer colour rendition but as for clarity it wasn't more than a 2% improvement. Unless you spend hours & hours on end observing tideline birds (which I do) with a selection of bins the difference to the casual observer in minimal. It's hard to justify the outlay under those circumstances. However, the warranty that comes with the Swarovski is world class. The best pair of bins is the ones in your hand as they say.

8x42 great for hand held, starts to get shaky when you hit 10x50 or above.
