Thinking of getting one of these as not had a springer in years, do TX rifles need a tune or are they good from the factory

Mine (TX200HC in .177) shot nicely when new but didn’t half buzz on firing, so I ordered a Titan XS no 10 to be sent to Deleted member for guide and top hat and that fixed it. It seems even smoother now too. Just my experience. Total cost was £48 inc new spring, postage and a pot of Deleted member’s fine moly paste. 3 days from ordering the spring from ANT supplies to receiving the whole package to my door.

Superb out of the box. They don't need to be tuned.

Mine is running with mostly standard internals apart from a longer latch rod to reduce stroke and bespoke guide/tophat.

I tried a 21mm converted version, I didn't like it.

In my mind they are good to go out of the box, not perfect but more than acceptable, they can be made better it just depends what you want to spend

Good out of the box but potentially even better when tuned - my Tony Leach tuned Tx200hc mk3 is a different rifle now, much smoother to fire and it showed in my BR scores. :) :)

If you don't mind me asking, why ?
I speak as I find and this is purely my experience. I know there are a lot of happy owners with the TL conversion.

For one I didn't see the night and day difference lots of people report over standard. I bought my converted rifle secondhand, if I had of bought the conversion for my own rifle I'd of been disappointed. The need to re-lube regularly (STP), and reading some owners reporting drop off in performance when the lubricant ran out really put me off.

I had an issue with a missing bearing and wasn't really satisfied with how things were resolved between the seller and TL. That was an problem likely resigned to my rifle though.

Regardless of the issues I had with the missing part, I still would of converted the rifle back to mostly standard. I want a reliable, unstressed springer not something that is highly strung and tries to shoot like a PCP.

I certainly wouldn't try to put anyone off a TL conversion but I recommend trying one if you are thinking of going down that route as I don't think they will be everyone's cup of tea. The kit is definitely a quality item though even if it was my thing.

They are good out of the box, at least that's my experience with my 22, it did develop some awkward recoil after maybe 12k shots or so, I then opted to have it tuned by Ratworks and now it's better than it ever was, especially with jsb express to pellets. Recoil is just a dull thud and it barely needs holding and groups really well.

So I'd shoot it for a while and see how you get on before spaffing money on a tune.

👌

I prefer mine in .22 as the .177 was a bit harsh til it had some internal attention. And I still prefer the .22.
They are both mk2 actions, mind, so can’t speak for the mk3.

Main thing I’d suggest is, if you’ve not had a springer for years, go and have a handle of a few and use them if you can. They’re hefty lumps, and some people don’t get on with them 👍🏼 But they are oh so very nice to look at 😍

Great Rifle. Mine is a .177 2 years old and Super accurate with AA Diablo 4.52 pellets. Best springer I have personally ever owned.(y)

My TX is full length and in .177.
It lives in a CS1000 and is topped with a Vector Sentinel BR scope
Its sole purpose is 25m benchrest and does the job really well..better than me.
Too heavy to do anything wlth..lol.
The only thing i have done is adjust the trigger a little.
I can put better scores up with the Steyr ,FTP and HFT500 without trying hard..but that is too easy.
The TX can match them..but is harder..i like the challenge of BR springers.

I have a standard walnut stocked MK2 I think I've had it 25 years ish , only thing it's had done is a new piston washer and a couple of new breach seals . I still has the original spring fitted and is stupidly accurate with the old crosman premiers . Most of them even the new ones only need a strip and regrease and shoot lovely if you do your bit . All this tuning is all well and good if it improves accuracy but I'm yet to be convinced that the TXs really gain anything .

I love my MK2 . Just got a new tablet and unfortunately my pictures of it are on my old tablet, otherwise I would of posted a picture.

There is a great video by Gary Chillingworth regarding the TX200, worth a watch

Garry does make a very valid point here regarding how easy a TX is to take apart. I’ve never stripped an HW97 down but I have had my HW80 apart more times than I care to remember so I imagine a ‘97 would be similar, and although simple enough, it’s no where near as straight forward as the TX.

To clarify mine is a MK3 full length and is just over two years old.

Having watched the video further up I'm wondering if the stock screws caused my recoil oddity 🤔
