Tx200 hc enigma.

So after getting some 18.13gr JSB pellets I tested them and some 25.39gr JSB’s I had laying about and this is what I found.
(25.39gr @ 9.17ft/lb) (18.13gr @ 12.76ft/lb) (15.89gr @ 11.82ft/lb) and 14.35gr @ 11.25ft/lbs of energy.

Well I wasn’t surprised to see the 18.13’s were well over the limit, so I took the mainspring out straight away and lopped one coil off and re profiled the end of the spring and I must say I was surprised at the outcome.
The new power outputs are now (18.13gr @ 11.53ft/lb) (15.89gr @ 11.77ft/lb) and 14.35 @ 11.82 ft/lbs of energy.
So the new lady in my life is no longer an enigma 😍

I am now happier with these results and I won’t touch anything in the future unless the power increases too close to the limit.
Must admit I was surprised to see all these readings do a 180 from the original ones.

I've had it happen when gun is over sprung and usually requiring a reduction in pre load. to stay sub 12.
Check without a top hat and slip washer, which will reduce power and give indication of what can be achieved if 1/2 a coil is removed from spring.
As power comes down the lighter pellet will prove more efficient.
Cocking and shot cycle will be even more pleasing.
Well I think you hit the nail right on the head, I reduced the pre load by removing a coil and lo and behold the lighter pellets produce more power now. What’s that all about then, was it to do with piston bounce or something?

There was an element of piston slam prior to removal of coil.
Some preload, however, will be necessary to prevent piston bounce.
Do you recall length / number of coils in spring you installed.

The gun was new so it had the standard AirArms spring fitted but the new TbT maxi pro kit I fitted had a 29 coil spring.

I was hoping you would say 34 coils to allow something to play with.
29 coils comes to a length of 220 mm, approx 8 mm pitch.
Removing a coil has reduced it to 212 mm, allowing for very little preload.

Didn’t really think it was piston bounce, but totally forgot about piston slam.

The short stroke kit I fitted comes with a 13mm extra pre load spacer.

After cutting the spring I think it still had at least one inch of pre load when I refitted it.

This week I received my new .22 Tx200 hc from Range & Country whose service I must say was exemplary with the aim of altering the gun to the same specifications as when Ken Turner designed it in the 90’s.
So I fitted a TbT Maxi Pro kit to reduce the piston stroke and I also deactivated the anti bear trap mechanism, the result was a silent cocking action with just one click as the safety came on and a very pleasant and easy de-cocking procedure with out the necessity to change hands. The guns cocking arm travel has decreased from 135 to 115 degrees which in my opinion is also an improvement.
When I fitted the TbT kit I did not fit any of the power washers supplied as instructed and on completion I then checked the power output, with JSB 14.35gr pellets the output was 11.25 ft/lbs. I then checked with JSB 15.89gr pellets and to my surprise this did not decrease as I thought it should but actually rose to 11.82ft/lbs . I then repeated the tests with both weight of pellets and the results were almost identical.
This makes me wonder, are these results due to this rifle having a rifled barrel length of only 9.5 inches or is it down to the short stroke kit or both.
Has anyone else come across this sort of issue with their TX200 HC in the past, is it only a thing in .22” ?
I would chrono with lighter pellet like the Hobbies and see what Hobbies are doing, would other members think? Lighter pellets being higher power output as far as all threads I have read. Chrono it to where you want it to be on those 11 gr Hobbies ? Then cut and polish your spring.

My second hand but mint TX HC was far too fruity when first Chrono tested. Awesome Springers.

Mr Tinbums videos seem to say chrono on a few but esp on lightest.

After cutting the spring I think it still had at least one inch of pre load when I refitted it.
Be careful with next cut.
So little preload, on the figures given, could result in another coil knocking power down to 10.
To remove part of coil, insert 2 pence coin under cut to protect coil below.

Great result! Keep an eye on it as things go on, but you are squarely in 1/4 coil removal territory!👍

Well just received a tin of 11.9gr hobbies and after testing several on the Chrono I was horrified to see they were travelling at 699+ ft/s. (12.93 ft/lbs). So I took the mainspring out and removed another 1/2 a coil and re profiled the end, it’s now pumping out 662 ft/sec. hobbies (11.6 ft/lbs) and I still have 20mm of preload. And that’s where I think I will leave it, power wise I mean.
Although I’m tempted to put some diopters on it for a bit of fun even though it’s .22” especially now I have only two rifles and four sights.

Good job you bought em. Mr Tinbums videos seem to say test on lots of weights but as low as you can.

I had a look at some FX I think PCP on guntrader running at 54 pounds... and we have a 12 limit. Makes you think.

But you did the right thing as its better to be safe than have idiot neighbours or something call about your Springer and it gets tested at 12.93 - tbh that was probably where my TX was running on Hobbies after its Tinbum kit- and the coil that came with the rifle was even more fruity.

You done good.

I have only one air rifle and scope.

It’s definitely been a learning curve for me with this rifle, if someone told me to reduce the length of mainspring to increase power for a specific pellet I would have thought WHAT A NUMBTY. In future I’m going to have to keep an open mind I think LOL.

I got her some new clothes and this is how she looks now, I’m not sure if she’s got a bit of a mean look in her eyes.
But anyway this is where the real fun begins in seeing which pellet suits her.

Is that a new Walnut stock? Looks very nice. Is that a support hampster under the rifle? Nice condition rifle Mr Stephen@:

My TX stock in mine looked pretty new and unmarked. Beech but will be keeping it. Try a few JSB Straton maybe or Hades. Super accurate rifles. Mine is tarted up with a gold coloured cocking aid from the previous owner, but keeping it as is. The .22 JSB Stratons are great though. :)
