Two teenage brothers, 13 and 15, both fiercely competitive, came to the club for a visit today.
We started shooting at 9am and didn't go home until after 5pm.
They absolutely loved it, and we shot two full tins of pellets, plus about 2000 BB machine gun pellets.

They proved themselves to be superb marksmen, and quickly mastered the Krait and a Vulcan 3, and then proceeded to try to out-do each other. :ROFLMAO:
We set up some tiny, chalk targets at 40 yards and they were disintegrating into dust at an alarming rate. They were racing each other..

There was also a bell. To make it ring, a shot has to pass through a hole which is smaller than a 5p coin.
The target was 40 yards away; the boys were sitting side-by-side .... and we said, "GO..."
The next couple of minutes was "ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding....
It was like a session of bell ringing practise. :ROFLMAO:
These boys were good.. They rarely missed.

They also had goes with blowback BB pistols and a 6mm BB sub-machine gun. . Plinking galore.
After playing at being "gangsters", they did some indoor shooting.

They can argue amongst themselves as to who was better. . . But they both went home with big smiles.
Me? I was exhausted. :ROFLMAO:

Now their 6-year-old sister wants to have a go... Homer face palm

When do they go back to school. ... :ROFLMAO:

Its great to hear about youngsters taking a interest in shooting and being taught correctly--The amount of lads not much older than me that have packed in --is unreal and you done see the younger ones around hear wanting to take up shooting --it gets to much bad press --i fear that many of us are the last generation --that hunt rabbits with ferrets-and shoot for the pot as well as pest control -then still do target shooting--- its frowned upon to own a gun by many these days Homer face palmShrug tt

Looks like great fun..

What's the clubs approach/attitude to youngsters and springers vs PCPs ?

I grew up with springers and for a while believed all new shooters should start with one.

I think the simplicity and low running costs still have their place with a young shooter. But I'm not so sure- a hold sensitive springer is a pita- it puts people off and does a springer really teach that much more than a PCP ?

Good shooting technique from any gun carries over to other guns. But does the particular nuances of a hold sensitive nature of a springer really carry over that much better to other guns ?

Shooting is a great leveller. The athletic types and physically larger lads have no advantage as they do in many other sports, and girls don’t need to guzzle testosterone either. It’s a super platform to deliver life skills too, concentration, self discipline, resolve, and so on.

The club doesn't mind which type of airgun anybody uses as long as it's legal.

A springer is fun but juniors struggle to shoot them for prolonged periods of time. . PCPs are undoubtedly easier to operate, and the multi-shot (magazine) capability makes them a lot more fun.

These two boys were not complete novices. I have been tutoring them (on and off) for a couple of years at another location so they are aware of the various intricate details regarding putting shots on target. They have learnt well, hence the reason they were shooting confidently (rapid fire) at 40 yards.

Their games didn't stop at 40 yards. The physical limit of our club range is 65 yards, and we have a collection of challenging targets to hit at that distance. . One particular target they shot repeatedly, hit after hit. . . one of our club members has been trying, unsuccessfully, for the last six years to hit it just once.. :ROFLMAO:

Yes, they were using some high quality rifles/scopes but they knew how to use them, and they had soooo much fun competing with each other. Other club members simply watched in awe at their skills.

It has been a pleasure to teach them.
Not all teenagers are bad, eh. . . even if they cost me a fortune in pellets during their visit. :ROFLMAO:

That's excellent. They'll remember that and, they'll probably get their kids involved when the time comes. I hope their little sister enjoys it as much 👍🏻
