The Theoben Thread

So I finally get it, I’ve got a late model Fenman and nice gun, bit harsh and very well made but not really my cup of tea. However just been lent an earlier pre-HE one and wow what a gun. Smooth, light weight extremely accurate and just an absolute joy to shoot. So time for a bit of gun rotation, are all the pre-HE ones that smooth to shoot?
My countryman pre HE is much smoother shooting gun, it could be compared to a well tuned spring gun. Where as my HE tannus has a much sharper recoil impulse, not bad just different.

Brit Seals don’t currently make the correct seal for mine as tried them, but did get one from Poland off eBay. Works well as running at a lot less pressure than it was in combination with running sub 11flbs. Don’t get me wrong if I hadn’t tried the earlier Fenman I wouldn’t have realised just how good the pre-HE stuff is.
Had our HE Fenman’s Piston crown converted to accept an Aussie Seal after the original plastic one disintegrated
It takes a third less pressure in the ram to get it shooting around the 11.3 ft/lb mark and is effortless to cock it has also transformed the shot cycle making it an absolute pleasure to shoot 🤘🏻

Good option if mine goes tits up - we like options 👍

Oh I like your ttr stock mate tbh I thought that was a standard one looks lovely, no I was just referring to others Ive come accross over the years, my mate bought a .20 mk2 thumbhole and I dunno what kind of wood it was made from it was like some kind of hardwood anyway it was heavy as lead and when he went to refinish it a hole appeared, it turned out it had a gaping void in the but section, it only got worse as he dug deeper, he filled it and sold it on was a shame as the block and barrel were mint, I told him just have a custom stock made in sheffield or look for a secondhand mk2 stock but he kinda panic sold it on.

Hes had 4 other Rapids up to now and not one was what I call a good one, dodgy internals leaky quickfills clipping shrouds one even had a snapped trigger so I made him a new trigger for that (god knows how you snap a trigger), hes only just got a nice shooting mk1 now 5th time lucky, but Ive always said look for the bog standard ones if possible, hard to find thesedays.👍

But he knows a man whos had a mk1 from new fron the 1990s in pristine condition so he might be adding to his collection soon if the gentleman decides to part with it.

I agree, they have to be standard, I’m not into the flash aftermarket stocks and other add ons. Unfortunately a lot of Rapids have been messed with.

Yours will be a late Evolution based one then. We did try, but the Evolution had cylinders with an ID of 31.4mm, but some later ones had an ID of 30.9mm so it was impossible to make a seal to cater for both. We did consider making them to fit the 31.4mm, but only supply them to our field testers as they could make the slight modifications, but decided against it.

Yup that’s the one, mine was 31.4mm. The one from Poland was a perfect fit but seemed very hard. Gun works perfectly and the profile stocks great also extremely accurate but by choice if I had the early one and the later one next to each other (which I do) I’d grab the early one when leaving the house for a shoot.

We only came across one with the 30.9mm cylinder while we were testing and it happened to be my one! All others were 31.4mm.
