The Last Marksmen!

My supersport from that time loved ftt's in the larger head sizes. I really don't think it had a 5.6mm barrel.
 
In my experience of Marksman pellets -

.177 - Avoid really rubbish casting

.22 - group well particularly in older BSA's

.25 - decent pellet that will 5p group at 30 yards.

I'll always have a tin or two of .22 and .25 (y)

That's actually bang on, the last tin of .177s i got the v other day are a bit rough , they seem to group ok in my HW35 at least but that groups good with everything you feed it anyway. Yep .22 and .25 are better always liked the milbro caledonians better in .177s if i am honest. Hey Look on the bright side for cheap stuff at least caledonians are still doing the rounds, might have to look more at spitfires too, anybody know owt about these panthers etc by air force one is it. any good or what?.

Depends what you mean exactly.
If you are Talking 5.6mm marksman then i am not sure there is a direct allternative, buldogs as far as i know are made by the same marksman firm, and a decent fit i have found in 5.55s is the H&N FTTs the chap i bought my mk4 airsporter off pointed me in this direction in fact he gave me a tin god bless him.
try superdomes or superfields and my airsporter and my old 1919 bsa imp mod D run quite well on milbro caledonian and some JSBs the RS versions work well but not the exact jumbos.
If you are just looking for a basic 5.5mm allternative that works and is cheap try milbro caledonians i get them a lot they are cheap and a fishing tackle shop stocks them local they are handy to just buy now and again.
Another cheap pellet is the SMK Spitfire not done much with these yet myself few mates rate them though and tried some they gave me seem acceptable so far worth a try.
 
Very sad news indeed.

Here's a box of 1950s era .25 Marksman pellets. The later 1980s boxes of .25 with the pinkish labels were based on this design. Note that boxes intended for .22 pellets were repurposed for the .25s!
