The King.

G.S.T.K 🇬🇧

I hope Charlie has a successful and speedy recovery.

(As mentioned, on a post about cancer, if you've got nothing positive to say then keep your gob shut. Plenty of other 'Royal' posts for you to share your views.) 👍🏼

FFS there are some real bellends on the forum at the moment and particularly on this thread 🤬

Irrespective of who Charles is, he's just been diagnosed with one of the most insidious conditions there is that takes people far too young, often in great pain.

Have some compassion.

He’s a man and as a fellow BPH sufferer I have massive sympathy for him.

To then get told they’ve identified cancer to add to your BPH misery, terrible, I really feel sorry for the man.

Add to that, you’ve recently started a new job that you’ve been training to do for many years - that’s pretty awful.

Opinions on the monarchy should not be relevant in any comment on this thread.

Just read this whole thread.

Imagine this;

You're born into a family and life you didn't ask for and get no further choice in, any choices you do get in friends, partners and life are severely limited by process and rules that only you and a small number of others are bound by, you graft every day of your life in a job on behalf of a country and for dozens of charities you didn't even apply for, under arguably the most intense scrutiny with quite literally the entire world watching until well into your 70's having last year carried out 425 engagements on behalf of the family and country, only for some ****ing random on an air gun forum to tell you you're "not their King" in response to your cancer diagnosis.

Half of the people i know in their 70's either struggle to wipe their own ass or need a nap after popping to the shops. This guy grafted every damn day.

No "feel sorry for the poor bloke". No "he didn't deserve that in punishment for all he's done".

Naahh.

That's the message some of us are putting out - some of which I'm surprised at.

Whether you're a supporter of the Royal Family or not (I'm pretty much on the fence these days), the total lack of respect and compassion for a fellow human in this thread is downright ****ing disgusting. You should give your heads a wobble. I hope to christ (and im not religious either), that none of your family have to go through that...

Oh yes he is your King

The constitution of the UK says he is your King whether you like it or not.
My first reaction to that was to reply "but we don't have a constitution in the UK." Which we don't in the strict sense that the Americans do have a formal constitution upon which all laws are based. Then it got me to thinking - hang on, how does it work then?

I don't necessarily trust Wikipedia but I am prepared to accept they are a likely good source on a subject like this. According to them the UK has an "uncodified constitution" meaning a collection of traditions, treaties, and other stuff which put together as a whole amount to something like a constitution. Definitely worth a read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitution_of_the_United_Kingdom

I couldn't find anything in it though which defines precisely how the monarchy fits into society and justifies its position (although the article does make an offhand unevidenced claim that the monarch "embodies the state") So the not-my-kingers could well have a point.

I agree completely with almost all of that, absolutely.

My expectation was that I would post something very similar to @TinCan Tony in his first post.

As you have said, his life has never been his own - all that money and luxury but none of the basic freedoms that most of us enjoy for which I have great sympathy for the man.
What is his opinion? Who knows?

I do admire his absolute commitment to his inherited "Station in life" and his attempts to influence the world about the environment before he became King.
I feel deeply for him having been set up to marry Diana - however beautiful she was - when he loved somebody else.
What a conflict between Duty and Desire.
He comes across as a good man - and he has earned my respect for all this.

I would not wish a Cancer diagnosis on my worst enemy, having watched both my parents die from it.
