The best dovetail scope mounts: What manufacturer would you buy into?

If scope mounts are cast and not milled out of solid billet then it is a guess as to what you might get from anywhere, IMO.

I have some UTG quick detach picatinny mounts that cost less than £30 that have been perfect.

I have some FX adjustable mounts that cost twice that of the UTG but it is hard to see they are any better made.

A thing I don't understand is I have bought plenty of small parts that have been CNC'd and they are wonderful with nice sharp definitions and a fraction of the cost of most scope rings. A lot of scope rings look very poor with blunt dovetails and price is no indicator for some of them.

I classed BKL as mid range? £60-70. For that money you can not beat them.self centering also.
OK windage on air rifle is not really a issue BUT after fitting a spare scope zeroed with sportsmatch then used with BKL`s you can really
see how offsset they was.
Some say using a lot of windage will effect elevation travel, have no idea on that

Depends what rifle you want them for

What you get, with mounts that don't sit centrally, is crossover

Yes I agree to both, there are so many out there but for the price don't believe you will go wrong for a good quality product that fits

used them on CZ`s 22lr dovetail. all my AR`s Weihrauch 95 and 98 also hw100 ,also BSAr10 in the 14mm size.
If they made picatinny i would buy them for my AGT Vixen. neatest mounts out there,no seperate parts to mess with to grip rail.

It depends on the price of the scope, and what sort of rifle I'm using the scope on. For an airgun, I really can't see the point in spending £300 on mounts for a scope that costs £400 - £600. Similarly, £5 'specials' from ebay will never be used on my better scopes.
I've had good and bad experiences with Sportsmatch mounts, but up to now BKL's have never given me a problem.

I’ve moved away from sportsmatch, even though I’ve not had any issue. BKL are the last dove tail mounts I’ve bought, both for springers. No issues so far and happy with the quality. Only negative which isn’t really a big deal, imperial hex key(supplied) but need to have with you (just in case).

Dovetail rings are always a ball ache if you have a selection of different brands of rifle.

Whilst the rifle manufacturers can't be arsed to standardise the rails then you'll have to be careful which mounts you run on which rifle. Subsequently I've never been able to stick to a single brand.

Take the vector x accu rings. They sit perfectly on the xti breech block(it's cut deeper than the s series on the target models) but sit canted on the s series.

The bkl sit well centred on the ftp900 and xti but the lips of the mount have a really poor contact patch on the rail. Not the sort of thing I'll be risking on fancy gear.

The bkl fit the s series fine and can be splayed to fit the BSA rails too.

I run some tier1 on the xti which looks similar in clamping arrangement to a bkl... But they can't be splayed. The dovetail is cut in them so precisely they won't fit many rifles. They are an amazing friction fit on the xti but poor on the 9015.

If there's an option to convert to picatinny available for you... Take it..

I use Tier One mounts mostly on my rifles. £130 doesn’t seem to much for the quality. I really like the BKL mounts and have them on a S400.

The Sportsmatch mounts I’ve used had a small cant to them when tested on the rifle (Mounted with the securing screws on opposite sides). The Hawke ones were the worst ones I’ve used. The cant was very noticeable and had to file the dovetail “blades” down to grip the dovetail on the rifle. IMG_8223.webp

This (also known as Cant), the further out you shoot the more it can affect accuracy.
Yep, spot on! This is why I am asking. Having said this does this matter at air rifle distances?????
