The Allotment

Looks smart that mate. Any Chillies on the go.
A few chillies and mini peppers in pots on a table in the green house. I’m the only chilled eater in the house. The Pots are trays of gravel and topped up with water, can’t remember the technique. I’ve also got 4 cucumbers growing this year ( same every year), planted in the soil, the variety is Beth Alpha F1. These are small 6 inch ones, sweet and crunchy best picked when about 5 inches, too big and they get a bit “wet”. I let them grow up to the top of the roof space and along a cane, when they get going I can pick a few every other day.

I'm the chilli fan in ours, so we always get some pots going, some years it's bumper and some years it's dire, also some turn out to be peppers not chillies, I was told this is down to crap QC at packing points, usually when it's from cheap places that do seeds as a sideline rather than dedicated garden places

Sorry double posted there.

I buy seed on occasion, those F1 cucumbers fresh seeds each year, but I usually keep seeds from my favourite tomatoes, chillies, squash etc, dried on kitchen paper then stored in the workshop over winter before sowing in a propagation thingy.
Flowers, cosmos, aqualigia and poppy etc. mostly cuttings for hydrangea or penstemon.

Seed quality is hit or miss but F1s don’t do well on successive years so I bite the bullet and buy good seed of important things annually, the cost balances out over the year.

Lovely, I visit an allotment local to me quite often as I keep them well supplies with woodchip/mulch and the occasional logs... In turn they keep me stocked up on produce so it's a win win 🙂
Our site gets chippings/logs/muck for free, which is a benefit to all plot holders, the chippings and logs disappear quick, the muck is a never ending supply.

The cut flower bed is looking good, an excellent way of attracting the pollinators.

Stunning that mate.

Spent many an hour down my dad's allotment from a very early age.
It was backing on to an old pit, shafts not yet covered, much exploring to be done.
Then there was the hedge rows, I'll not get into what we got up to down there with the Webley hawk, mind you we did find 10 embassy regal and some 70s porn mags 😃
The allotment also backed in to a farmers field who regularly shot trespassers simply for walking there dogs, Aye the good old days.
Pigion lofts, every veg know to man, we even had a pit pony (Joe) that my father rescued, he walked/rode him 8 mile home from the pit
Diy shed that I built from my dad's spare wood pile (everyone had one)
Fond, fond memory's.
The pit is now gone, the colliery rows demolished, "fat mama Begbey's" garage just a memory.
In it's place and old folks home and posh housing.
