It's almost February, and that means it's almost time for…

⭐ The AGF 2026 Friendly 10m Pistol Competition ⭐

Originally started on AGF Mk1 in 2021, this friendly competition is now entering it's sixth year. I've noticed quite a few people have been posting about their new pistols over recent months, so hopefully we can see some new names this year. It doesn't matter if you're good or not — have a go, and see if you can improve over the year.

⭐ The Rules ⭐
  • There are separate categories for PCP, SSP/MSP, CO2 and Spring — so everyone can join in.
  • Open sights only — no red dot or optics, however fibre optic type open sights are permitted if your pistol has them as standard.
  • 10 shots are to be taken at 10 metres, measured from the firing line to the target.
  • Wherever possible, competitors must shoot the pistol with one hand, standing unsupported in the 'Olympic' stance.
  • Two-handed or supported shooting is only allowed for shooters with a physical impairment or disability that requires it. Please declare that your card was shot unsupported, supported or two-handed with your submission.
  • 17cm ISSF type 10m card pistol targets are to be used, inward scoring applies. This means if a shot touches or cuts into the line of a higher scoring zone, the higher score counts.
  • The number of Xs (inner tens) will be used to determine the monthly winner in a score tie-break situation.
  • Targets without an X ring (such as Bisley brand) can be used, but the number of inner tens will be zero, no matter how close to the centre the hole is.
  • It is also recommended to shoot two targets of five shots each for reliable scoring if you are likely to shoot tight groups that will obliterate the scoring lines and make scoring difficult/impossible with ten shots on one target.
  • If there is a tie at the end of the year, stamped targets (2 x practice, 2 x competition) will be posted to each shooter to be shot and scores returned (either via post, or scanned images/photographs) to the organiser within 21 days of receipt. If no response is received in this time (barring exceptional circumstances), the shooter will forfeit to their opponent.
  • You can only submit one entry per month per gun. If you submit more than one entry for the same gun, the first entry will count. But this also means you're welcome to submit multiple entries with different guns.

Your highest scoring target will be considered when selecting the monthly winners but I will also keep track of the scores per gun type, so at the end of the year we can announce the overall winner and also the Top Shot in each category — CO2/Spring/SSP/PCP. At the end of the year I will take your six best scores per gun, so if you have an off month or can't start right at the start there's no need to worry.

To keep scoring and record-keeping straightforward, please submit your entry with a photo of your target/s with the below information typed into the message, and don't forget to show off your pistol!
  • Username
  • Supported/unsupported/two-handed
  • Pistol model
  • Pistol type (PCP/SSP/Spring/CO2) ← this is important, as I don't know everything about every pistol!
  • Ammo type
  • Score
For example:
  • ReSyC
  • Unsupported
  • Steyr EVO 10
  • PCP
  • JSB Target pellets
  • 96 2x

Now, the most important bit...
Shooting all month or shooting 5 targets back to back and entering your best card out of the 5 isn’t in the spirit of a friendly forum competition or fair play, so I would encourage you to commit to shooting a target for the competition.

Pop off a few practice targets to warm up, and then go for it — entering the score that is shot regardless of how it goes.

It’s closer to ‘real life’ and adds a bit of pressure to keep us on our toes! ;)

That’s about it with all the serious stuff!

Even though this is being run as a competition, the reason for it is to get everyone out there shooting and having a go!

There will be monthly winners announced and an overall champion at the end of the competition, but this is all about doing what you can with what you’ve got and it doesn’t matter if you score 1 point or 100 points — it really IS about getting out there and having fun shooting!

We all want to see what you can do and what pistols you are shooting with, and you can use it as a way to set yourself personal challenges to keep raising the bar, beat your personal best, shoot more often by committing to get a card in every month… whatever you like, but the key factor is this is supposed to be a fun and friendly forum competition, so don't take it too seriously or heap too much pressure on yourself ;)

As in previous years we kept January open for shooters to stock up on pellets and targets, have a chat and get some practice done and we will start the scoring from February 1st.

So what are you waiting for?

Dust off your pistols, get practising and good luck everyone!

A great start to another year.
For those in doubt, I'm not the best shot by far but trying to get at least one card in each month keeps me on my toes and in practice.
Go for it. Nevermind if you're not the winner.

Thanks for picking this up for another year and keeping it going @fatherjack - top man! Dancing banana

My pistol shooting has gone to pieces, focussing most of my shooting time on FT but I'm going to do my best to get at least one category entry in each month this year.

Be sure to support this people and make it worthwhile, and most of all have fun with the masochistic discipline that is pistol shooting! :ROFLMAO:

A minor update to the rules. While the rule below says '17cm' and 'card', it really just means a target that complies with the ISSF rules for a 10m Air Pistol Target. Whether this is on a 17cm square card, an electronic target, or on a sheet of A4 paper it doesn't matter.

  • 17cm ISSF type 10m card pistol targets are to be used, inward scoring applies. This means if a shot touches or cuts into the line of a higher scoring zone, the higher score counts.

The attached PDF, if printed out at the right scale (so there's 10cm between the two black squares), will do if you don't have any targets — I've printed it onto the back of a rifle target on occasion when I ran out.

I'd like to throw this question out to the readers- does anyone fire their HW45 (my air pistol) one-handed with any success?
Or any other greater than 1.2kg springer pistol?
Thanks.

Been looking at buying one, should one come up locally, i shoot one handed but with a pcp, so i'd like the challenge, but certainly to start with would stick to the shorter distances

I shoot my HW45 two-handed unsupported with good results: it's as accurate as I can be.
Will try shooting a few targets one-handed but I'm not optimistic.

No i didn't i thought we could submit multiple entries(4?)
Yes, it's the final bullet point in the rules:
  • You can only submit one entry per month per gun. If you submit more than one entry for the same gun, the first entry will count. But this also means you're welcome to submit multiple entries with different guns.
