Hi all,

After much deliberation and thinking about how I can improve the pistol competition this year, I've come to the conclusion that it's fine as it is, so without further ado, and with much copy-and-pasting, let me introduce you to...

⭐ The AGF 2025 Friendly 10m Pistol Competition ⭐

Originally started on AGF Mk1 in 2020, this friendly competition is now entering it's fifth year and has built a little bit of a following with some dedicated shooters and an incredible mix of ability and pistols on display, so I hope everyone will continue to enter in 2025 and that we see a whole lot of new names joining in!

Show us what you can do!

⭐ The Rules ⭐

  • Any power source is allowed (PCP/SSP/CO2/Spring etc) — use what you have!
  • Open sights only — no red dot or optics, however fibre optic type open sights are permitted if your pistol has them as standard.
  • 10 shots are to be taken at 10 metres, measured from the firing line to the target.
  • Wherever possible, competitors must shoot the pistol with one hand, standing unsupported in the 'Olympic' stance.
  • Two-handed or supported shooting is allowed for shooters with a physical impairment or disability that requires it. Please declare that your card was shot unsupported, supported or two-handed with your submission.
  • 17cm ISSF type 10m card pistol targets are to be used, inward scoring applies. This means if a shot touches or cuts into the line of a higher scoring zone, the higher score counts.
  • The number of Xs (inner tens) will be used to determine the monthly winner in a score tie-break situation.
  • In the event of a tie in a single month of the same score and X count, a joint winner for that month will be announced and a point awarded to each shooter on the leaderboard.
  • Targets without an X ring (such as Bisley brand) can be used, but in a tie situation a score submitted on a target with an X ring with a clear X count will take precedence so please use targets with an X ring if you are likely to submit a high score and contend for first place.
  • It is also recommended to shoot two targets of five shots each for reliable scoring if you are likely to shoot tight groups that will obliterate the scoring lines and make scoring difficult/impossible with ten shots on one target.
  • If there is a tie at the end of the year, stamped targets (2 x practice, 2 x competition) will be posted to each shooter to be shot and scores returned (either via post, or scanned images/photographs) to the organiser within 21 days of receipt. If no response is received in this time (barring exceptional circumstances), the shooter will forfeit to their opponent.

You can submit one entry per month, per gun.

This means if you have several pistols and you want to enter a target shot with a CO2 gun, and also submit a target shot with a PCP, or two CO2 gun entries with different guns for example then please do — the more the merrier!

Your highest scoring target will be considered when selecting the monthly winners but I will also keep track of the scores per gun type, so at the end of the year we can announce the overall winner and also the Top Shot in each category — CO2/Spring/SSP/PCP.

To keep scoring and record-keeping straightforward, please submit your entry with a photo of your target/s with the below information, and don't forget to show off your pistol!
  • Username
  • Supported/unsupported/two-handed
  • Pistol type, model
  • Ammo type
  • Score
For example:
  • ReSyC
  • Unsupported
  • PCP — Steyr EVO 10
  • JSB Target pellets
  • 96 2x

Now, the most important bit...

⭐ This competition relies on honesty. ⭐

Shooting all month or shooting 5 targets back to back and entering your best card out of the 5 isn’t in the spirit of a friendly forum competition or fair play, so I would encourage you to commit to shooting a target for the competition.

Pop off a few practice targets to warm up, and then go for it — entering the score that is shot regardless of how it goes.

It’s closer to ‘real life’ and adds a bit of pressure to keep us on our toes! ;)

That’s about it with all the serious stuff!

Even though this is being run as a competition, the reason for it is to get everyone out there shooting and having a go!

There will be monthly winners announced and an overall champion at the end of the competition, but this is all about doing what you can with what you’ve got and it doesn’t matter if you score 1 point or 100 points — it really IS about getting out there and having fun shooting!

We all want to see what you can do and what pistols you are shooting with, and you can use it as a way to set yourself personal challenges to keep raising the bar, beat your personal best, shoot more often by committing to get a card in every month… whatever you like, but the key factor is this is supposed to be a fun and friendly forum competition, so don't take it too seriously or heap too much pressure on yourself ;)

As in previous years we will keep January open for shooters to stock up on pellets and targets, have a chat and get some practice done and we will start the scoring from February 1st.

So what are you waiting for?

Dust off your pistols, get practicing and good luck everyone!

I have seen many posts on targets. Can you post a definitive target that we can print here to keep it all in one place please?

If you print this one at 100% it should be the right size, assuming your computer and printer do things accurately. You can check by measuring the gap between the black blocks - if it's exactly 10cm then it's spot on. Any wider than 10cm and it's not allowed; any less than 10cm and you can use it but you're just making it harder for yourself!

It's set up to be centred at the top of an A4 piece of paper. I could create one on a different size document if it helps, but my printer was happy to print this onto 17cm card when I had run out of NSRA targets.

I shoot a 600 competition twice a month, it’s indoors and monitored. I will just pull two of my best targets from that competition to use for this one. If that is OK with everyone.

:) not in the spirit of comp rules as out lined in post #1

Not that anyone else would shoot off a string of targets and pick the best to submit for the informal comp or admit to shooting a supervised formal competition format twice a month and skimming off 2 best targets to submit......possibly with a Match grade pistol, against people shooting at home on improvised range equipment with very unmatch grade pistols.

Even in club level formal monthly league comps you shoot on marked cards to ensure what you are suggesting dosen't happen and people can't bin duff cards and slot in a better one. :)

You're both very keen — the competition doesn't start until February. Do you want me to count those as your February entries?

(Remember to include your score in the text of the post).

Whoops yes please , I was at the range yesterday doing my 6 yard ones and thought I better do my 10 at the same time, apologies

Not an entry for February but more a point from which I can only get better
Just started 10m pistol shooting and finding it a bit of a challenge
A few months ago I’d be lucky to hit a card, at all
A couple of weeks ago I couldn’t put 2 or 3 out of 10 in the black
I’m improving but it’s slow
I will put an entry in for February and shoot 2 separate 5 shot cards

How are you scoring that? I'm new to looking at these target cards.

10, 9, 9, 8, 8, 8, 8, 7, 7, 6 for a score of 80.

Are you scoring the one close to an 8 a 7? It is very close isn't it?

Hi
Yes, looking again, I think you may be right with 80
First time I've had enough to even warrant counting, so its all a bit new :)

Thanks

Think I'll be having a crack at this 👍.

Only started shooting pistol regularly the last couple of months.
Did my first 600 at 10m in the shed this evening.
Manage a 497 which I was happy with.😀

I'll be back here in February, not expecting to break any records, but I'd like to improve my score a bit👍

What app are you using for your target scanning. I feel like I am collecting them now
