Just sat outside work, having a ciggy, and heard a right racket going on above me on the workshop roof.
Stood up and turned around, and four feet from me an adult wood pigeon was attacking a fledgling squab.
It had it turned over on its back, standing on its chest, and was giving it a proper leathering.
I have no doubt that if I hadn’t intervened and shooed the adult off, it would have killed it.
The squab made it to safety in this ivy covered tree.

The adult sat on top of a telegraph pole, looking most put out, looking towards the ivy as if it was lining up to follow, until I shooed it away again.

Has anyone else witnessed this kind of behaviour?
I certainly haven’t in my 52 years.
