bought an airgun to shoot squirells that had invaded my attic shot one with an old springer
and Caught 4 with a home made trap I seen on YouTube. Now I have an HFT 500 and am well and truly hooked. The last squirrel I caught has to be the biggest squirrel I have ever seen! the vid does not do it justice.

I don't think there will be many more members on here who have seen as much carnage as I have by these tree rats inside roof spaces 🧐

This year is particularly bad...home insurance doesn't cover the damage either.

If you have trees or shrubbery hanging close to walls get it removed!..this will act as a deterrent but not a cure as they will easily climb downpipes & soilpipes.
Once they establish themselves they are a nightmare to clear even with constant trapping & shooting (when safe to do so).

A mate of mine bought a new house to him, when the sale was going through, because of all the stress he suggested going on holiday before moving in, by the time he did move in so had the Squirrels in his loft. He had an extensive survey done before he bought it approx 6 months before he moved in but buy that time he had to have £14000 of roof repairs done, was not happy. He did have the tiles replaced at the same time though that wasn't damaged buy the rodent's but there was so much work had to be done anyway he idea was just get it all done and hopefully he would never have to pay out on anything ever again.

Some of you might have seen my other thread s on here talking about similar...as a Roofing contractor for over 45 years there's not much I haven't seen enter roof spaces, believe me these are the absolute worst & a much bigger issue than getting rid of Rats & other bird species 😞.
Please don't be fooled when you next hear someone talking about how cuddly & sweet they are playing about in your garden 🤬.
On some problem properties we've used almost every type of of tile fillers & bird guard's & they've chewed through them all!...
Older style bathroom soil pipes with ill fitting lead saddles are easy entry for them 🫣... saying that we recently replaced one with the newer type, cut all the tiles really tightly around the perimeter... within two months they have bitten away at the rubber seal around the flange, a neighbour we do work for said he's seen two at a time having a go at it.. there persistence buggers.

I had them getting in through a gap they had made in the soffit on at flat roofed extension.

My fault as there was an overhanging branch nearby. I chopped the branch off and blocked the small hole they'd used with a double layer of steel mesh, which they very quickly munched through. I think I may have trapped one inside and it was eating through the mesh to get out!

They didn't come back, but that might have been because the wasps had moved in!

One of our customers has such a massive problem he's got traps galore in the loft & as soon as he's trapped 4 or 5 they come back again 🫣.
As much as he hates them he said it's distressing when he's in the bedroom below & can hear them howling when the traps get them🥺.

I've known squirrels bite through a lead valley, hole the size of tennis ball.
Rat poison, in pellet form, will diminish the numbers.
Better to shoot them in garden at feeder. Attempts to trap in roof have limited success.
thats illegal mate ;)

Our last house had a thatched roof and in a very short space of time they’d made a drey in the thatch - buried right into it.

My Mrs (who doesn’t normally shoot and has no interest in guns) shot one on the run from about 20yards with my old springer whilst I was out at work as it was running to and from the loft and she could envisage the damage it was doing up there. I think she shocked herself a little bit but she did the job!

Ooer…I had these two in the garden this morning 🤪 haven’t seen them hanging around the house yet 😝
