That’s where I’ve slipped up. I should’ve kept a springer to do just that.I always make sure I shot my HW97 springer every now and then to put me back in place..
Best fun and frustrating time ever but rewarding..
Same here - Wife didn't mind me buying an HW35 off my nephew in Lockdown but can't understand why I've now got an arsenal approaching double figures and was similarly dis-pleased when a Honda TLR200 and Bultaco Sherpa 325 miraculously appeared in our un-finished Kitchen ExtensionI have more CF rifles than PCPs where as springers i have well over a dozen and growing.
I did briefly think about getting a .25 PCP , but i dont need one my two PCPs a Hatsan AT44. 177 i Walther barrelled myself , and a old standard AA S400 in .22 both are all i could ever want from a PCP. Yet My springers are a constant form of entertainment i never tire of playing with them and if i have a moment to spare i like nothing better than playing with a springer or as old as i am putting a trials bike through its paces both these things i did as a kid and i just think i never really grew up or so my wife keeps politely reminding me.
Glad you are enjoying your rekindled springerisum you know it makes sense.
I always kept springers a bit of a needs must thing we always kept geese and ducks and rats are always a problem even when poisoning them and shooting them.Same here - Wife didn't mind me buying an HW35 off my nephew in Lockdown but can't understand why I've now got an arsenal approaching double figures and was similarly dis-pleased when a Honda TLR200 and Bultaco Sherpa 325 miraculously appeared in our un-finished Kitchen Extension
Back to original post;- I've only ever shot Springer's and recently bought an AA S400 - beautiful gun but, I'm not feeling it.
Used to use a .410 for Ratting when I was a lad but realised mixed 12g Shells were cheaper so I went large and got a Baikal !I always kept springers a bit of a needs must thing we always kept geese and ducks and rats are always a problem even when poisoning them and shooting them.
I like a .410 for ratting too and reload .410 up to big bores for fowling mostly.
Fact is a springer is an all together sport all on its own, you can just vermin shoot with them decoy pigeons with them target magpies jays and other corvids under the general licence and there is other small predators and rats squirels etc its endless fun and can be done so many different ways .
Or besides hunting there is target shooting of so many different types bell target benchrest FT Or HFT and others its a never ending list of options to have fun no cylinders to test or buy refil or pump up just the air all around us and a bit of arm effort and pellets.
They just never get boring if its raining you can get in a shed workshop or under a lean to and mess about on targets dont even need get wet with a knock down and reset line.
I get a lot of fun from springers and glad i have these useful guns around.
Why i mentioned i reloaded .410 even as a kid i had a set of RCBS scales and used to reload the old eley fourlongs with felt wads and top cards with a RTO .Used to use a .410 for Ratting when I was a lad but realised mixed 12g Shells were cheaper so I went large and got a Baikal !
I used to get a mixed bag of 2nd's Shells from Oliver Somers Gun Shop in Wigan - sort of like the shooting equivalent of buying a bag of 'broken biscuits' - mostly misprints on the casings, different Manufacturer's, shot sizes & wads but, they all went through the Baikal and were about 3/4 the price of the cheapest Eley's.Why i mentioned i reloaded .410 even as a kid i had a set of RCBS scales and used to reload the old eley fourlongs with felt wads and top cards with a RTO .
If you have more than one springer it becomes more of a challenge, as each shoot differently from each other. After years of PCP’s and just returned to a springer, it’s challenging to get the consistency / accuracy. I’m having to retrain my brain and muscle memory but bloody hell this is fun.
That is true no question about that but the more you shoot them and learn you get a technique that works well with all of them certainly most, and the fine details of the individual rifle is more a detail refinement of technique again this is gained by practice and familiarity learning by using. . Springers are realy interesting. If you have more than one springer it becomes more of a challenge, as each shoot differently from each other.
OH! I dont know nostalgia comes in many forms even Hungarian ones.Springer warning;- if you ever come across a long forgotten Relum Tornado in the back of an elderly relatives cupboard - leave it be, no good will come of re-introducing it to Society !
I have a Super Tornado and it's a brilliant air rifle.OH! I dont know nostalgia comes in many forms even Hungarian ones.
