Hello,

Any recommendations for a shotgun ammunition cabinet please?

I am literally looking for the cheapest possible that will pass the required security standards, be FAC certified, and be suitable to hold up to 1,000 cartridges.

Given the size of cartridges, would a second "rifle/shotgun" cabinet be a viable option and be allowed for ammunition storage in accordance with FAC?

This is in part due to the proposed measures on SGC licensing but also because I want to strengthen security.

Thank you,
Bradley.

No thankfully, but my question is in part due to the proposed measures on SGC licensing but also because I want to strengthen security.

a van vault type safes if you have the space.
I know one RFD who is house based who uses them for ammunition and firearms .

some thing like should work. a job site tool safe . You could add more locks and bolt it down.

If you want it to Home Office standards, it needs to be resistant to hand tools for five minutes, a door you can’t fit a crowbar in and pry open, and not openable if you cut the hinges off.

Just buy a cheap, used, 3 gun shotty cabinet from eBay 👍🏻

But as has been said, there is no requirement yet to

My daughter bought a 3 gun cabinet (with excellent reviews by the way) that literally stores just one gun with the foam top guide removed.

I can see me giving her mine as I’m looking for a rifle cabinet and using it as an ammo store.

I’ll just stack the boxes, and add a couple of mid shelves to ease the weight on the bottom ones.

Think it was £150 new, but buying a secondhand 3 gun would be a good shout as mentioned

There's loads of people giving up shooting at the moment, I'd just put a wanted add up for a 3-5 gyn Brattonsound or Buffalo River.

Saddest thing I’ve read today, but unfortunately true.

There isnt any required standards on storing shotgun cartridges is there? I just use plano ammo boxes
There is if you use slugs. A couple of slabs takes up quite a bit of space.

For S2 ammunition I just use a couple of lockable wooden office cabinets, looks innocuous, secured against the curious.

Currently S2 ammunition not only has no security requirements but you do not need a certificate to be in possession.
So you could take them to your mums or anyone elses house and put them under the stairs.
Not that I recommend such action, just saying you don't need to get your knickers in a twist over storing them.

There is no requirement for shotgun cartridge storage here, so under the bed is fine. But joking aside, I have two old large steel traveling trunks from the 1940's which are lockable and have cartridges in them. You might pick them up from a junk shop a lot cheaper than buying a modern item. Nicer to look at as well.
