Shark Attack 😳

Ive studied sharks since i was a nipper.
Every ocean has them, youre more likely to fall off a kerb and roll your ankle than get bitten by a shark.

No great Whites have been spotted off the uk coastline, which is surprising considering our temperate waters and seal populations.
But still, they dont come.

Porbeagles, blues and mako’s are frequent visitors though, theyre the most dangerous around the uk, as well as the harmless basking sharks.

Dogfish family sharks have always been about (tope) .

Tigers, Bulls and Great Whites - naaaaaaah
Not to mention oceanic white tips, which could possibly count as the most dangerous of all.

Only by the fact theyve consumed more human flesh than most.😆
Horrible buggers though, they’ll go for anything in the water and are aggressive with it.

Thought to be responsible for the the most attacks on sailors that found themselves in the water.

Sharks are found in all oceans, (and some rivers) but most wont even present themselves.

They were the ones that bumped off most of the crew of the USS Indianapolis.

'll never put on a lifejacket again. So, eleven hundred men went in the water, three hundred and sixteen men come out, and the sharks took the rest. June the 29, 1945. Anyway, we delivered the bomb."

Explosions and subsequent injuries, sun & delerium from being adrift without rescue or supplies - no food or water were not responsible at all, only sharks (/sarcasm).

The general concensus is that the sharks bumped off more of them than what you suggest. The survivors have said the same.

Dead or living, they had a feast from those poor buggers
Robert Shaw's WW2 sailor in Jaws was never the same again. But jokes aside- in WW2 it was no joke being on warships/commercial shipping during such times of risk when you might find yourself in such waters... in the Atlantic/Russian convoys you would pass from cold, just rom the water alone probably in two min's or something. One of my neighbours, her uncle was JAP pow and he was thrown over board after passing from disease, while a WW2 pow- his relatives didn't even know if he made age 19.

Poor chap :(

The sharks were the least of the problems, honestly. Any shipping was highly hazardous during those times. There are so many wrecks around here, both military and civilian. Some not even identifiable/ied.

Best Jaws 1977 movie quote - "That time off the coast of Hispaniola, there was a shark so big it gave you nightmares, as big as a house it was- but when all else failed I pulled out me .25 under leaver with its .25 JSB Hades and looked him in the eye and he decided right then to do a youturn and off he went... sharks you see ain't never no match for .177 or .25 lead boy... but you cant use your air rifle underwater- they don't work so well under water- remember that"

Sorry about the poor pic,but it's the only way I could figure out how to post this.

Mako washed up on Barmouth beach about 10 years ago.
This is the second Mako washed up locally,in my lifetime of living here.(that I know about)
So at age 65,lets call it a "50 year event"
Not me in the pic.
There have been a few vids on FB of a Portbeagle swimming off Aberystwyth recently.

There are loads of shark attacks everywhere. I would be too scared to swim in the open sea, more than about 20 feet out- its scary anyway. I was on hol years back and saw someone swimming must have been half a mile out in Majorca or somewhere and they were doing an evening swim. You could just see their head.. If they had leg cramps come on, it would be game over. Looking at the Jaws pics, reminds me , on you tube fairly recently, I came across an Italian Rip Off Version of Jaws- they made a direct copy of the film. How they did not get sued I don't know,

Presume the film makers didn't care about legal issues- I think it was a very similar plot.

Robert Shaw in that film talking about the true WW2 story of the US Navy crew being picked off one by on by sharks. People pay to go on shark experiences and "pet" the sharks, its been reported that's why many attacks occur. :(

Have you seen those snake charmers who only have 3 fingers left due to amputations necessitated by snake bites ? And they're still doing it !!!!! 😳

Some work with snakes legit- to collect venom to make anti venom- but others its just for cash- wrong when you think of it. Snake venom- no thanks ;(

These are "the brothers" 2 sub adult male great whites who've stuck together for virtually all their lives. They even hunt cooperatively where one distracts prey while the other attacks. They're absolutely incredible but I wouldn't fancy having a swim with them then noticing one's disappeared

Was just on youtube checking out a few tunes after being on the music thread and youtube's predictive viewing showed an adventure seeker in a see through canoe calmly paddling through shark waters - hope it wasn't in fact a translucent bathtub with the plug hole starting to leak.

Live life on the edge with some extreme thrill seeking. No reason to be scared, looking through the bottom of the see through canoe at the view of a Great White grinning at you, with a hundred sharp teeth. "this is scary" he says on his running commentary.. "am being stalked by a Great White".. "He could be hunting"..

To add a shooting element to this shark topic, in the first film where they shoot at the shark with .30-06 Garand, would that be plenty enough power to kill the bugger ?, yeah I know its a Rubber shark, but I would have thought, given that SMLE .303 was credited to have enough power to penertrate three feet of oak ?.
Just wondering out loud .

Bought the 60s Batman TV Series last year and the Surfs Up surfing contest with the Joker is one of the very best episodes- Adam West used a shark repellent spray- here he also does shark scene from Batman the movie.

Joke post aside, I don't agree with Shark Hunting/sport fishing, when you read about declining Shark numbers.
