Hunting Search for a springer rifle for vermin control

Thanks 50 posts seem hard to accumulate

I am just starting the search for a springer for the control of vermin around my buildings,
Intending to visit a local gunsmiths this afternoon my initial thought are hw97 or hw98.
Really want to see what they are like when I shoulder them. Unfortunately I have had operations on my arms so therefore must not be too heavy.
Any advice would be appreciated I will try to keep you informed on my progress
97 is a lovely rifle but i do find it can be a bit heavy especially if youve had operations, only ever tried the wood one so basing off this, but then again most weihrauch springer rifles have weight to them,

i have a 99 in .22 and find it a nice useable rifle also owned the hw50 in a .177 and the .22 imo is a much better calibre in this rifle

is a pcp out the question, if weight is an issue a ultra or a kral may be more suited and around similar money to the rifles in question,

My choice of a springer are the following reasons

Normally only have a few shots before relocating

What a gun I can just pick up load aim and squeeze the trigger

Something that I think I will able to repair if needed so won't be out of action too long

Old school technology so easy to understand

Only rifle sights and pellets needed ( no gas bottle compressor etc)

Or maybe trying to relive my youth and use open sights if I am feeling nostalgic

I think you are getting the general idea that although the HW97 or the TX200 are superb guns they are unfortunately just too heavy. As has been previously mentioned get to 50 posts and put up a wanted for a fettled / tuned HW99 in .22 calibre as I think that will be the rifle you need. A good friend of mine sold one just before Christmas and that had a TBT kit fitted in was really nice to shoot and that sold for a bit over £200.

If you want a light gun, with a quality barrel/trigger and are shooting around buildings, so don’t really need full power, try a hw30. Great little gun. I’ve used my 2 for lots of short work vermin control. They are absolutely perfect for the job.

Isn't that typical just my luck

I started on a springer for rats but honestly they were just too noisy to get more than one shot off as the remaining rats scarpered after the first shot.

I went from spring, to break barrel piston, to CO2 (I have a CP2) that I then upgraded to HPA, then eventually on to pcp.

The cp2 is great, lightweight, accurate, easy to shoot. But CO2 is very inconsistent with temperature which frustrated me hence the upgrade to HPA.

I get wanting everything ready to go and self sufficient, it's all a trade off. I find pcp the most reliable, consistent and resilient to temperature (big issue with CO2), plus far far quieter.

Yes I think that would be a good idea or some kind of rest do they become available on the forum
Hello, You can make a Tripod from 3 Green Garden Poles and use an off cut from a bike tyre inner tube to hold together , Then wrap the tops with sponge and tape , But for around £50 you can buy a Fiery Deer tripod

Once I have sorted the rifle I will l look for an adjustable one

A fettled 99 is my go to hunter… 💪

I’d also seriously consider an hw30
I think that I will go and have another look at the gunsmiths this morning to see if I can get a deal on a package. I like to support local gunsmiths as without business they wouldn't be there when I really need them

I did suggest a 30 further up but I think it got missed. Fits the bill perfectly.
Sorry not to have replied sooner my bsa meteor will still do a good kill at sub 25m. I have a superstar which is good for longer distances but is too heavy and cumbersome for me to use now and will probably try and sell at some point. Many thanks for your interest in my quandary

There's a hw35 on gunstar at the moment in .22 with £48 for delivery. Leaves money for a half decent scope.

Edit. Actually just noticed the need for it not to be too heavy. Think that'll be around 3kg, so I'd stick with the recommendation of a hw30

A Springer will be fine, and a lot less hassle than a PCP. A 30 S or 99 would be my choice. You can get a HW30 kit for £280
I am wondering if I should buy a new 99s and use the 4 x40 sight from my superstar
