Anyone else get this? I seem to trap a nerve in my sleep sometimes. This morning is bloody awful. I know my posture is off because of all the metalwork in my legs, Any strategies guys? I'm going to lie on the floor for a bit.

I'm off at the mo with this. Mine's down to years in the Marines but almost certainly compounded by years of driving the fast boats. Recently (2 years ago) I got an inversion table (teeter) and it has made a huge difference. This is the first episode I've had since getting the table but it's stopped it short of the full unbearable spasm.
I say it's not sciatica as most people understand it but it's all related.

I'm no salesman, but I swear these are worth their weight in gold. I just made sure to buy Teeter, there are lots of others out there but after doing my extensive research I went for this one X3 Fitspine

used to get it when laying around in recovery after i put my back out. all down one leg.. just had to vary my position and move frequently...

Hi Rob
I wish I'd bought one of those, last time we spoke about it.
I did something to my back a few days ago and its steadily getting worse.
Really struggled to get out of bed this morning

Hoping the pain will stay in my lower back, and not go down my butt or leg, like it did last year

I had this for the first time 6 months ago and it lasted 6 weeks, eventually I went on Youtube and found a video where a bloke gave two exercises to alleviate the pain, then two exercises to build up the little muscle that is the initial cause of Sciatica.

I can't remember the exact video (there's loads of Sciatica ones) and caution should be used following anything on Youtube, but a couple of simple and quick exercises worked for me, good luck with it!

I've also got a stretching regime which I do stick to. Bit hard to explain what exercises I do as it's the best one's from years of physio but very much focuses on my lower back, outer quads, hamstrings

I'll be giving the exercises in this vid a go today
I do those Rob. Tbh, the first one she does I'd stopped doing not long after the last episode as its so difficult, but after this episode and the gentle reminder of the excruciating pain I'm teetering on again I was reminded of it as the pain for me is mainly down the outside of my quad, although it radiates from the lower back, to my ass and down the right lag (but outside). That stretch, with your leg crossed over the other and then pulling in on the straight leg is great. I'll keep doing that one this time no matter how hard it is to get hold of the leg behind!

I suffered with sciatica a few years ago, a decent physio helped but the key to recovery for me was understanding the structure, muscle and nerve, which was contributing to the issue. The piriformus muscle surrounds the sciatic nerve, fully or in part and attaches to the femoral head( assisting in leg rotation etc) if the piriformus gets stressed or damage it swells and pinched the “finger thick” sciatic nerve that is adjacent. Targeting the recovery of the piriformus through stretch and rest regimes was really successful for me. Finding the exact exercise that really helps took a bit of trial and error but that’s where the physio helps.
Good luck and speedy recovery

Going to have another coffee, then give them a go

Just hope I don't get stuck on the floor :ROFLMAO:

Mine's still confined to my lower back on the left hand side, and I hope I can keep it there

Ended up at the out of hours Doc at the hospital last time. Agony doesn't even start to describe it

Pull your knee into your chest as far as it will go, then apply alternating cold and heat. It works for lots of people.

I do similar stretches and also gym work focussed on core strength.
Just done a set of these exercises and it has given some immediate relief
Makes the back feel a little less fragile, if you know what I mean

Easier than I thought they would be @bootneckbob . Guess it help that I have long arms

Just a case of keeping up with pain relief and these exercises now and hoping I can keep it from going full blown

Yes u get this sometimes ,A hit bath or shower followed by stretching exercises helps.

Fixed me within a week of doing the regular exercises.
Key is not to rest but to stretch and exercise.

I have at time experienced some relief by sitting on a sciatica cushion , very comfortable .
