Well,
After seeing @Big Dan shooting one and posting pictures, old magpie eyes here thought that’s worth a go.
Dealing with Dan is always a pleasure and after him bombarding him with txts telling him I want one now he got one on order straight away.
Anyway… picked up the rifle and straight away liked the compactness of the rifle along with how light it was to shoulder. I put a few shots through to get a feel for her and was very impressed. A quick kit out and really liked the way it felt. Quick top up and off to my perm.
I like it when rifles have a dust cover over the entry for the fill probe that slips forward.
The barrel is very close to the cylinder so not enough room for a shroud which would really set this rifle off.
Over the next few days I tested a few pellets and noticed she really liked the Norma branded ones. Having not used these before and telling Dan I wanted to try some I was very impressed. The group below should speak for itself
As was honestly shocked how accurate I found the rifle out of the box. I tried the usual suspect and it wasn’t overly pellet fussy but these turned out with the tightest groups. I need to push this out to 50 yards where things may open up.
Now the stock. Dans one from his post was stunning and I know the pictures online will always be “the best” they have. I’m very happy with the stock but it’s dry as hell so needs a good oil and rub to draw some of those lines out which I’m now well under way with .
So, a little feed back so far.
Pros
Price point - good value in my opinion and punches above its weIght.
Stock -
although very dry there’s a lot of potential there with minimal work
Accuracy-
can’t ask for more at this stage
Comfort - very paintable and would make a good pester
Trigger -
better than anything I’ve shot at this price point. You are able to adjust but it came very light which I liked straight out of the box
Front Picatiny rail
Not to everyone’s taste I’m sure but I’m glad there’s one there from the off.
Usual guff in the box
Anyone who’s had a Turk rhino before knows you get a load of Alan keys and orings. Most are complete shite but at least the thought is there.
Consistency
High single digit numbers at the moment with the odd few going into low 10’s. Happy with that so far but will see what I can do to the reg which is set at 100bar.
Cons
Typical small flaws -
adjustable cheek is pretty poor. I need to work on this but the grub screws inside have disintegrated trying to undo them and just got all chewed up. The brass outer sleeve also came out when unscrewing and now won’t sit flush h in the stock. Not great but I’ll sort in time as I want the adjustment with this.
Fill probe -
a very tight push into the fill port. I can see orings getting chewed up and needing to be replaced. Tried both sides and it’s the same.
Studs front and rear
Great to have them but I hate it when they are pre drilled into the wood. A sleeve they screw into has a little more class.
Can’t fit a shroud
Minor and pure personal preference but would have kept this more compact and a better look I think.
Saftey
Very noisy but to be fair I hardly use it where I need it to be quiet.
Mags….. not sure where to put these..
they are the standard Turk type and to be honest they will do. I’m not a fan but there are not many mags out there I think are great. I’m sure over time there will be some sort of 3D printed ones that are better but I’ve had no issues.
I can honestly say I’m very happy with the rifle, especially the price they come in at as I think they punch well above their weight. They are much better than “the average Turk” rifle and would like to see one in my favourite caliber.25
Looking forward to sorting the cheek piece out and stretching her legs to 50 yards. I’ll also be sorting a full shot string which I’ll update later.
Shout out to @Big Dan who I’ve had many rifles off over the years. Always there to help and provides a great service.
All the best
