Hi all, this might be a new one for you.

I have a walnut stock here that has had several coats of a food safe mineral oil used on kitchen worktops and chopping boards etc. The exact oil is called Skydd from IKEA (I know this because he still had the bottle lol). The oil was applied about 5 years ago and to be honest this a nice finish but obviously prevents further oiling. I can’t see anything on the bottle about removal of the stuff.

I don’t want to have to sand off this finish ideally or need to fully refinish the stock. What’s my best bet, acetone or white spirit? With maybe some #0000 wire wool?

If its the same as the original Weihrauch finish then Acetone and a scotchbrite .
And a respirator with an organic filter (y) It gives me a headache

Find a local French polisher as I take mine to one who has a tank of stripper, not sure what’s it’s called but it removes everything and a £10 a stock, they come back with a slight bleached look but only need a wipe of oil or whatever I’m putting on it to come back, and a friend takes his to a car wheel repairer who powder coats and they use a stripper in that process somewhere

If you can find hot dipping its a quicker and better for the wood than cold dipping...iirc

You want a proper oil and wax remover. The one from Osmo works well.
Work in with 000 wire wool which will soften and remove the oil without stripping the wood dry or damaging the grain.
Colron is supposed to be effective, but not one I've used.
