Hi everyone we're thinking of releasing a small amount of ducks on are syndicate shoot for the first time around 50 perhaps

The pond is smallish fenced off from cattle with some cover I intend to create a floating island from a pallet etc & float this out into the centre giving them some shelter & protection from predators i.e charlie & possibly put a electric fence around the perimeter of the pond

Looking to start a feeding routine between the members & possibly use a auto feeders with barley

Has anyone else released ducks & could advise how they have gone on? Any tips / tricks to help it being a success

Were hoping it will also pull in some wild ducks also

I don’t have the tips and tricks buddy only experience of looking out for them through the scope. A land owner of mine keeps ducks on a few ponds and has an electric fence plus refuge area where the ducks can avoid predators. However, he did lose a large number in one night last year, found them outside the electric fenced area. I suspect the fox jumped the fence easily. He had to bolster his perimeter security until I was able to roll the culprit. Good luck with it.

If you intend to shot them, you must feed them away from the pond. , ideal is you can encourage them to a high point in a couple hundred metres away..
If you feed them on the pond, it will be very difficult to make them fly.,

A call duck on there or a few of them --these usually have had the the flights cut to keep them on the pond but these must be feed and have shelter and of course given safety --a island is good to keep them safe but also a fence around the pond is good to keep foxy at bay --Duck trend to do there own thing but if you can keep them without to much disturbance they will be good as also said feed them daily --then near to the shooting season try to get them to lift off and let them back in with shooting at them for a few times =-put a bag limit on when you start at them because they soon wise up --another big problem is flood water lying in fields if this happens they soon learn there is food to be found --If you have call ducks and feed a pond you can usually pull wild duck as long as you keep the feed there and don't over shoot it --and once a pond starts to freeze up they will be off by having a few football floating around can help to keep the ice off especially if there is no water movement --if the pond is filled by a steam a dam to stem the flow will help --ideal if you can divert a steam into a higher up pond then let that be used as a overflow to keep a main pond's water moving ---Have fun don't forget the none toxic shells!!! And barley is better than wheat --but wheat works if you have nothing else This was a regular size bag when i was looking after a pond that was on the part of the shoot i was looking beat keeper on --the syndicate were told and asked if they wanted to shoot the ducks as the pond was being fed up --they never showed any interest so me and the head keeper use to shoot it most of the time it was just me as he was always busy!! when i ended up being the only keeper for them for a few year --they decided to try and run the pond as a extra drive after a pheasant day!!! They made it go tits up --they decided to cut down the trees that were near it and make silly hides they used to turn up sitting with Mobil phones!!!! and cap lights stuck on there heads!!!! not a clue and some would not take advice --i got that fed up with them i had to walk away from that place it was take take by them they wanted it all but most of them would not put the time in to repair things to make the the shoot work --i could right pages about it ------sorry for the rant!!!!! ALL THE DUCKS shot in the picture were shot using none toxic during the open season
