What reel under £50 do you recommend?

What do you think of lidl crivit reels ?

So I plan to get into fishing and I've brought a 11ft daiwa matchman pellet waggler rod just to do a little float fishing on the canal.
What's everyone's opinion ?

I'd avoid a cheap new reel, and look for a Shimano Aero, Diawa Matchwinner/Harrier/DM or similar, but that's probably just me. Been out of it a while so might be some good reels I'm unaware of.

I would avoid the reel from lidl, but with a budget of 50 just pop to your local fishing store and try a few out and I'm sure that in the Shimano range or in the diawa range you'll find something you like. Remember that the small spinning reels will probably also be suitable if all you're doing is a little bit of float fishing on the canal. You can also look second hand as you might find a stradic for around your budget. They are my current favourite reels for general coarse fishing

generally I'd avoid the lidl reel, but tbh it's cheap and if you get a summer out of it for £15 with a 3 year warranty you can't really go wrong.
Not sure on sizing, but for an 11ft waggler rod go for the 2000 spinning reel

I use the Drennan Red range reels and for about £30 i don't think you'd dind a better reel. They're decently made and come with two spools for different line strengths.
you can choose between Float or Feeder options.
The spools that they come with are designed to take 100yds/mtrs of their respective line breaking strains without having to pack the spool out to get the correct line depth on the reel or use more line for efficient casting as most line comes on 100yd/mtr spools.
I've both float and feeder versions and have had them for a fair while now without any problems.

Have a look at the Okuma Ceymar range.I bought 2 of the smaller ones for light lure fishing and they're excellent for the money.I now use them for everything when I don't want to use a centrepin.Ive owned a fair few reels over the years and these are excellent.

For 50 quid or there abouts I'd be taking a trip to a well stocked local tackle shop
Take the rod with you, try some reels on it,check for feel and balance.

Loads of light duty reels out there now In budget that will last years ,in fresh water..

plenty of 4000 reels for £50 all my gear is preston innovations.. Don't go for a 3000, they are short range fishing a 4000 reel is about right for a pellet wagler for also getting abit of distance... 🎣 (y)

It's a bit late sorry and I suspect you have bought by now, but a little over you budget is the Drennan Vertex Float Reel, with either front or rear drag. The rear drag would be great for canal fishing if you hooked into a big Tench or a Crucian.

Having said that I also use an Okuma Sheffield Centre Pin and boy it'll spin forever.

TBF a pellet waggler rod is a bit to beefy for the canal as for the reel you won’t go far wrong with a Diawa Ninja, cracking little reel for the money and comes with a spare spool, and would be ideal for pellet waggler fishing if you ever wanted to try it.
