Afternoon all,

Can anyone recommend a Breathable but waterproof jacket? Been out this morning in my jacket normally used for shooting and after about an hour my T-shirt and light jumper are soaked and the inside sleeves of the jacket are wet. many thanks in advance.

Depends what your budget is and intended use ... if just walking the mutt have a look at Ayacucho. If money's no object, try Arcteryx 👍

As above, just bought a waxed jacket had one years ago, keeps me warm and dry.
But when out at night after rabbits it is quite noisy when walking, so back with the jack pyke.

If your a sweaty beast consider something truly breathable like paramo which does not have a membrane. Even the best membranes struggle to let sweat out .
Or if it’s low energy and not moving around much something with a membrane is good.
Also if your lying about membrane is better as water won’t soak through.
Hth.
Vard.

Most waterproof clothing is going to be boil in the bag if you are physically active . Some have vents on the back or under the arms . Fine if the wind is not swirling the rain about.
Wetting out can be a nightmare so keep up the DWR which let's the rain run off .

I take an Army poncho with me . Makes a great shelter if you want to ride out the rain unless it's on for hours.

My current ( had them since early 2000s) are prototype Working Climate Gore-Tex ones.

Basic jacket with two pockets and slip through pocket trousers.

My old Fishing Jacket was a boil in the bag item. An Ex NI Army jacket I believe .

Very noisy. Vents under the arms but the jacket is two layers of PVC coated nylon.

If there’s no budget constraints then have a look at Keela, the best waterproofs I’ve ever used are the Mk4 SF jacket & the FWP (Foul Weather Pants). Not cheap but great kit!

I used to have one of the NI jackets. Used it for fell walking before I knew any better or could afford something decent.

My mates brother gave me it. He was in the Royal Scots. I got the full DPM suit also. I only kept the NI one as I used it on the motorbike also until I got a bike specific one.

At the cheap end, any Austrian army goretex:

I have a Peter Storm, Peter Parka purchased from GO Outdoors for under £50. Its one of the warmest coats I have, however, it's waterproof it does not state Breathable on the label so whether it is breathable I have no idea but it does not get clammy like some other brands. Presently in GO's sale at £44 and quite a bargain.
