Had a quick phone call from my son last night, he moved to America a year ago, & has just found a range approx an hour & 20 minutes away from where he living, & he's pays $15 a month membership, seems a good price to me
Ok, forget it's America as we can't really compare, and an hour and 20 mins is a 3 hour round trip, so that's a deal breaker for most straight away, but in the UK it really does make a massive difference to what ranges cost to where you live, but we also have to remember, if it's a club it's a low cost operation and not making money, if it's a business then they are going to maximise the profits as much as they can based on demand, so there will always be a big difference range to range.
Two ranges within abut half an hour of me:
Club based on a commercial site - £40/year then £6/session with no time limit, opens 3 days a week.
Commercial site: £40 membership and then £8/hour, or £10/hr if a non member
As you may guess, I've not been to the commercial site
£10-£15 just for a day at the range is normal in my neck of the woods, so it's not bad, but in the US shooting is a thousand times more popular and seen as the fun, wholesome activity it is by a lot of the general public, so it's not surprising it's easier and cheaper to do.
I bet he isn't surrounded by clubs that only open on a Sunday, and every second Wednesday during working hours as long as it's a full moon, either
