Hi,
Advice please.

We have a 6 acre field with only one entrance at one end.
The rabbits near the entrance have gone! They are all now too far to get from the entrance gate, with a sub 12.
My back, now, won’t allow me to go prone for more than a few minutes - the joys of advanced years.
I am considering using a hide, sitting and waiting for them to emerge.

The question.

Is it advisable to put the hide up for a few days so that they get used to it?

Thanks.

( Searched and couldn’t find an answer).

Ideally create a hide from natural cover, inexpensive camo netting left in place, disappears with only a little new foliage.
If there is no natural cover a hide will probably spook them for a few days, especially if it smells new and different.
I'd probably stick up some camo netting, high enough to get behind, with poles and ideally not backlit, then for cover take fishing umbrella and a seat on the day.
Try it out at home if you can, save time on the day.

I honestly think it barely matters. I pop my hides up on the day, leave them out permanently and I can't really tell the difference. You'll probably need a couple of hide locations to stay down wind which I do think is as critical as the stealth

Cheers CP

David at Hunters Vermin uses a chair hide and blends' it into the surroundings.

He does hide it better than he has in this video now.

Couldnt help but laugh all the way through that, reminds me too much of allo allo where the gestapeu are pretending to be trees to photo the money transfer

Hi RB I have used a hide for similar reasons to you, build from natural materials and common netting, as mentioned, but make sure you have a comfortable seat,it will extend your session and improve your accuracy, Good luck 🤞 mitch21

jack pike net poles and clear view and traditional netting use a swivel head bucket seat for the netting and gen 3 tripod works well. Dont be back lit and get as deep as possible into any vegetation.

Hides can be a pain, if left out they are susceptible to adverse weather etc. Then they get messed with when the village idiot finds them. IMHO decent camo clothing will do the job. I bought a suit off temp for a tenner and it's holding up well.

Hello, You not wrong on the weather, Many Many years ago i got a Camo Pop Up to use on a Rabbit perm and decided to leave out in the field, After a week of hot sun it bleached to nearly white, A 1 Decoys did send a new one, Would of made a good hide in snow !!!!!

This is for our horse fields, so leaving a pop up out is not an option.
Coming round to converting an old trailer to look rather like one of our horse shelters, that can be parked up in a far corner for a few days before using it.

There's an old Renault master van sitting in the corner of one of my meadows so ive left a back door ajar, put an old table and chair in the back with rest bag. The rabbits take no notice of it for a little while but they do become a little cagey so I have a session then lay under the hedge in camo gear in another field. Rabbits aren't stupid, they soon suss a bit of danger but ive had them 6ft away laying on the deck. Hides are a bit of a faff IMHO.

Could you park the horse trailer in the field, shoot out the grooms door or net across with the ramp down?

Yep, just leave it there for a day or two till they just ignore it. It's always an advantage to leave it how you intend to use it, i.e the door left open. Then you can just get in there and it will appear no different. A quiet gun is always a help as well because if youre patient and don't just shoot the first to come out, you will get 3 before they twig the danger. I just sit in the car sometimes, let a few appear then bobs your uncle. I never give one spot too much pressure otherwise they spook too easily.

I use a pop up hide in a large garden, I put it up about an hour before the rabbits come out and I get comfy on a chair and primos sticks. I shoot them when they come out, then when it gets dark I use an old pard 007 to shoot when it’s dark. The hide doesn’t seem to bother them. I put it next to a tree and a hedge
