Quality Allen key set

All 🤪

I’ve bought (and given/thrown away) more Allen keys than I care to remember. Eventually, the penny dropped and I bought a set of Wera along with a few EDS in smaller sizes - both are excellent. They’re not cheap but, you pays your money……. I’ve read good reviews on Bondhus but, never tried them.

Wera for me, I have loads of it, sockets, spanners, screwdrivers, torque tools etc, all tried and trusted at various workplaces I've worked at for years and ended up buying much of it for myself as other tools wore out or got lost in time. Only other fixing driver tools I use for airguns and fishing gear repairs etc is Arrowmax, made or marketed for the R.C. market but they are really well made and good fitting hex keys in smaller sizes, you can buy the replacement blades cheaply too for when you have worn or broken one.

I've got a couple of multi coloured sets. Think one's torx. Look like a Wera set n both seem very good. Good fits into heads n not slipping. Nice hand sized sets in swing out holders

Tried most, the best ones are old English brands and Wera coloured jacket, not the Wera Green jacket theyre too brittle. Wera are a better tighter fit in the hex and the reason they work, Bondhus dont and only use the T type to spin in screws quicker or what comes to hand first.
Comes to something you spin up an allen screw with a Bondhus, not even tight and cannot undo it slips in the hex. Break out Wera, undo easily.

I use Wera, generally good quality and doesn't break the bank.

Two sets are always good - a set of normal 'L' shaped ones for general use and a set of 'T' handled ones which are great for longer reach while maintaining decent torque.
+1 for wera get a set of the ball ended and a set of the T handles if money allows

I was in the motor trade many years ago and still have my snap on roll cab with all my tools, many slowly found a new home in my gun bag. If I was buying a set just for my guns now, it would have to be Wera but no ball ends. I went on to be a sparks so I’ve also got a full Wera vde set of t bar and screwdriver Allen hex drivers.

Hi

Interesting that no one seems to have mentioned Snapon?
I have a set from many years back and still going, with lifetime warranty.........

Bondhus are supposed to be the supplier of Snap-on L keys. Snap-on uses many suppliers and rebrands.
Halfords Advance sets are normally good quality, worth a look my hex sockets have been around a good few years now. Doing as good a job as my Wera plus

The reason why Wera Hex Plus keys are so sought after. A bit like why 6-sided (6-point) sockets are generally superior to 12-point sockets for high-torque applications because they provide a more secure, full-surface grip on the flats of fasteners rather than the corners. This design significantly reduces the risk of rounding off bolt heads, prevents slippage, and offers increased strength and durability.
Somewhat a reverse of how the 6 sided sockets works
Hexagon screws can endure a problem because the contact surfaces delivering the power from the conventional tool, is transferred to the screw via very small surface areas. The consequence: the screw can become damaged (rounding out). Hex-Plus tools have a greater contact surface that prevents this from happening!
We once had Metrinch . One spanner that worked on metric or Imperial nuts working much the same way, not sure if they are still available.

Some really good advice.
But this thread would be 10 times better if we had links with the sizes and sets you guys are using.
Thanks in advance 😎
