QB78 - what do you reckon?

Here’s one I built from bits. Shroud and riser was made by my old mate Dave (the late porky yorky). The stock is walnut and a one off. The barrel I fixed permanently, so made a removable pellet tray to access the screw beneath. The barrel is free floating. Valve and housing worked on a lot. I won’t go into details otherwise I will fall fowl of the rules. Long throw hammer made and fitted. Pellet probe reworked to use pin probe. Internal re-ported and polished for better gas flow.

Left as co2 which made a very nice lightweight rifle. I knew what would happen with temperature fluctuations, so shot accordingly. However, winter always got a bigger TP fitted.

Wasn't that a stock made by a member on the Chinese forum by the name of Walnutty ??..........dom

one of my favorites,my only recoiless rifle, reminds me of an old single shot bsa 22lr we used many years ago
mostly wood and steel and very easy to work on,trigger easily adjusted as well brilliant

No mate. The chap who made it stopped posting not long after selling this one. He was like Craig P and worked on high end stuff for a living.

I've had a couple of these over the years. And in fact I have one on the desk right this moment as a project! I'll probably do a thread on it when I get closer to the finish but they have all been HPA converted 79s.

This one was a project I bought of a member in here and I've taken forward, just received a very nice Pneumatic Ballistics 10 shot breach. As a snippet I'm in the middle of making a stock for it from fibreglass to envelop the regulator. May look like the dogs dinner at the moment but it's getting there.

Had many over the years and fettled a load for people, there's a .25 one out there that I did years back and one adapted for a lad with dexterity issues.

It's a simple platform that can be made to perform very well for the money.
I think that ended up in a gunshop in yorkshire a few years ago when i saw it.

That's interesting, though I doubt I'll be alone in making one in .25

I do remember it was a decent barrel, Walther or Anschutz, which as per a previous comment would have cost more than the base rifle.

Keeping it legal was a bit of a challenge and very small adjustments made big differences. If I were doing it again I'd choke it more at the valve or transfer port to make adjustment a bit more linear.

Theyre a good platform if properly fettled, in co2

Very true. My go to shed ratting gun is a QB 78 modified to .25. Will make 1 hole groups at 15 yards and that's all I neen . I know a few people who use the target model for bell target and they don't disgrace themselves. The sights are a little fragile but do the job if looked after

Hi,

i have two QB 78`s, both are converted to PCP. I have a .22 wich i bought from a Spanish bloke. I have no clue where the conversion comes from. I`ve been looking all over the internet but couldn`t find it. This gun is shooting very well with its original barrel. I`m Dutch so the muzzle velocity exceeds 12 fpe.
The .22 is painted like the Frysian flag.

I do not shoot the gun too often but i founds some groups. 50 meters.

and 100 meters.

I have .177 too. From this to...

The conversion comes from Poland. A tube and a new valve is all i got.

It was a hell of a job to get the transfer port airtight. When it was airtight i discovered that i had created a monster. With 10 grain JSB these are the V0 values:
1196,3 fps

1154,8 fps
20210818-210128.webp

1153,8
20210818-210246.webp

The 6th and last one i measured was 344,5 m/s or 1130,2 fps.

Best regards, R

Nice guns, and very nice results. It is always interesting seeing different developments.

I like the look of that conversion kit, very cool.

i've done a couple of quarter bores in the past and might still have one
the sidelever match is the one to get as the barrels were far better than the std qb barrels
