Hi all, Looking for some advice.
I'm in the market for a PCP Pistol for 10m targets and plinking. Budget of up to £300

I bought a display model Reximex Mito a couple of days ago but ended up returning it within an hour after finding one magazine didn't work and pellets were jamming in the barrel (magazines and single shot, with and without moderator)

I've been looking at the Artemis PP800R instead but I've seen reports of it being quite low shot count wise. 20-25 shots.

I will need to be able to fit (or ideally include) a moderator for when I'm plinking in the garden. other than that I'm just after decent accuracy and shot count.

Any recommendations ?

Hi @ShySteve , you must have been unlucky with the Mito (or I've been very lucky :) ) My two (S & W) have had no problems in about a year now - apart from the original crap moderator adapters. Aftermarket ones are available if needed.

I also have a PP800R in .22 and although I've not counted I'm estimating the the shot count is around the 25-30 region. No problem for me, I've a bottle just inside the back door.

All three guns are fitted with Huggett Atom mods and are more accurate than I am.

Hope this helps. WJ

Thanks for the info, Think I'll have to keep an eye out for deals and maybe give the Mito another try but go for a new one rather than settling for the display model. Of the two what would you say is the better gun ?

The air reservoir on the PP800R pistol isn't very big and this is reflected in the shot count.
In standard form they produce about 5.8ft.lbs. This gives about 20 to 25 shots.

However, I changed the hammer spring on mine for a softer version. The main reason for this was because kids were having difficulty cooking the gun. It reduced the power to 3.8ft.lbs, but the bonus is an increase in the shot count to 45.

The trigger spring was also changed for a lighter unit, and the trigger is much improved.

An aftermarket stock and a cheapo red dot sight has been fitted to it and it is a very accurate gun which gives good groups at 25 yards even with the reduced power.

It has been 100% reliable.
It is great for plinking and for targets..... and the youngsters love it.

Hi Wing Commander,
Sounds like this could be a good option for me. 3.8ish ft.lbs would be fine as I'm only planning to use for targets and plinking.

Is switching out the hammer spring a simple task or are we talking a full strip down ?

I've not done much work on any pcp's.

Have a search on here, there's been several threads where we have changed out hammer springs etc. Dead easy to work on. Mine is now my daughters carbine, but used to be my 10m competition pistol. Mine was the unregulated version, but by changing the springs and fitting an Altaros regulator I now get around 90 shots per fill at 3.5fpe.

Yes, they are very easy and straightforward to work on.

Believe it or not, this is still a PP800R pistol.
The stock really makes it grow.

Steve, I would have to flip a coin to decide which is better.
Just a couple of points to throw into the mix:
1. I had to modify the grips of the Artemis to suit my hand (Gorilla mits :) ) Worth checking if you can !!
2. If you want to add a shoulder stock to the gun the Mito S is complete. For the Artemis you would be buying aftermarket addons.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like any of the above will do what I want them to.
I think the next order of business is going to have to be a trip to the local RFD to see which I prefer the feel of.

Hi all, Thought I would update here. I went to my local dealer and tried a few different pistols, ended up leaving with a very nice Gamo compact (I've since replaced the trigger spring with a lighter one) and seem to have caught the 10m bug. For the price and the fact I don't have to worry about pumping it up I couldn't say no.

I am still looking to get a PCP pistol at some point, but I think I'll wait until I can affords to invest in a tank at the same time.

Thanks all again for your input and advice, I'll keep eyeing up deals on the Mito's and P800's
