I need to change my broadband, I see Plusnet have a deal on but when you google reviews for them they have terrible feedback.
Anyone used them that can comment please?

I used them for about 7 years, up until about 2 years ago. They were fine for me. As with most of these things, service reliability seems to vary by geographical area.

To be honest, the only reason I moved away, was that there was no sight of Fibre to the property being installed any time soon. Not Plusnets fault as they only provide service on existing infrastructure . And Virgin had recently been installed in the area. So, I went to Virgin. Who have terrible reviews, but It's been good, actually. Had a couple of down sessions, but that's it.

Edit: Oh, and when it came to leaving Plusnet, they were sound. No had sell to try keep me or anything. They were just like "were sorry to see you go, if anything changes, just give us a call back".

As with all things in life - if there is no problem all is good, when there is a problem that is when you separate the wheat from the chaff.
I was with them for many years in a previous property and all was good. Then I came to move house, informed them of my moving date eight weeks in advance. They couldn't supply phone and broadband at our new property so it had to be a termination (which they charged me for). Four weeks later they cut off my phone and broadband. See what they did there?
Contacted them to ask why they cut me off four weeks too soon.
"Oh, sorry about that, it wasn't us, it was our sub-contractor."
"Can you re-connect me? I need phone and broadband as we are arranging our house move."
"Yes, I can arrange to have you re-connected, but it will take four weeks."
"I'll have moved by then."

Roll on a few years and PlusNet can now supply in our area.
I go back to them, sign a contract and all is fine for a year or two.
Then, some toerags steal all the underground copper cables from this area. We (this and neighbouring villages) are without phone and broadband for about six weeks. Some comms suppliers are helpful and support their customers. PlusNet were terrible. The issue even escalated to the desk of our MP (who is fantastic but shall remain nameless, Alicia Kearns  )

I know, I know. I should have learned from my first mistake and experience of PlusNet Homer face palm

Would I recommend them?
Would I?

[I sound like a real grumpy old git :ROFLMAO: ]

Had plus net for years and still with them.

As said above , they use the existing infrastructure so my Brad band is not the fastest ,but faster than any one else we've tried . Steady and reliable good enough for my gaming. Of course there has been issues but all have been resolved fairly quickly, the issues were down to faults on line or at exchange.
I get 25mb not limited by plus net but by the old wires and distance from exchange..

No fibre here (yet).

Not had many dealings with customer service but when I have they have been spot on.

Just as a side note my son has starlink. He pays through his arse for it but it is super fast.

A happy Plusnet customer here, and for many years. When needed, their customer service has been fine.

I have just ditched my landline, and am now on a part fibre, part copper system. The changeover went faultlessly.

No plans to change.

Steve.

They are part of the BT / EE Empire. I am going to move away from EE in the near future. Phone (over broadband) has been particularly bad. Network slows ridiculously.

They promise many things and EE was actually a step BACK from BT - even though I was almost forced down that route.

I cannot quite understand the need for a "landline" now that a mobile service is much cheaper. I have, until recently, had far fewer problems with my mobile service - but I am currently moving away from EE mobile as my line seems to be frequently "unavailable".

Whether this is because I use "Wi-Fi calling" in my setup, I cannot be bothered to investigate

I hope that whatever the OP (@rainy911) chooses, they are more fortunate than I have been in the last few years.

My advice would be to check with your neighbours - not take too much notice about how a supplier performs in other locations, although their overall service response to faults and problems, MUST be taken into consideration.

Good luck!

ive been with plusnet for years , mobile and internet. the only down side was when they stopped doing mobile phone and we were pushed onto ee, what a shower of ***** is ee. i tried other mobile companies but they were worse. but hey plus net best company ever /

Same here, but I swerved ee and went to Smarty for my mobile - they're excellent.

I left BT because of their ridiculous prices and went to Plusnet for broadband. At the same time I left EE for the same reason went to Three for mobile.

Well Three mobile was a waste of time and never worked. Always showing 4G but not loading stuff. So much so that I paid to get out my contract early.

My Plusnet broadband was 'ok'. It never dropped out and the customer service was decent but it would always run slow in peak hours as it uses BT who despite claims do give priority to their customers.

I ended up going back to EE for broadband and my phone as apart from prices they'd both been the most consistent and best for broadband speeds/phone signal in my area.

Plus I got a big saving getting both together. I pay £13.99 for a SIM only with unlimited calls, texts and data, and I think my broadband has gone up now but it was £29.99 for 150mb guaranteed fibre which round these here country towns is a decent speed.

Learnt my lesson from moving from what I know due to price so I'll just haggle better in future. 🤣

I did also have a phone number knocking around somewhere for EE/BTs customer retention team who are UK based and happier to compete with online deals...no idea where I've put that though.

Many years with Plusnet, the few times I have needed support, they have been fine, but that has been very rare, so the setup will have changed over the years.
Like so many businesses, the name remains but the company or service gets sold, transitioned to other platforms, and mostly piggy backs off the installed infrastructure.
It was reported that when BT bought shares, they didn't realise they would get the controlling interest (51% shares), I'm not sure how true that was, but it is basically a "brand" of BT.

@WibblyWay 's comment on checking with neighbours is a good one, here we have virtually no provision, so companies may promise you the earth but not be able to connect (Looking at you Truespeed).
If you are limited to particular services, concentrate on who does those acceptably, and here is copper only, and Plusnet (BT) still runs that old stuff OK.
