Iv been reading a lot recently about sizing pellets to fit your rifle barrel. How do you know what you should size your pellets too. I have an HW100 shooting QYS pellets and get the odd flier. Is there a recommended pellet size for each manufactures rifle?

I’d say myself it’s more trail and error, I’ve had loads of different experiences with rifles and each shoot different better if that makes sense lol

It's trial and error I'm afraid.
Mine likes JSB Exact.
You can buy selection packs on various makes and sizes. Try Wolfman or JS Ramsbottom.

Are you using the magazine or single shot? Because that can have some affect on accuracy and produce the odd flyer.

Does it do it with both the magazine and single shot or just one of them? Also is it a genuine single shot?

If your barrel has a choke & pellets are slightly larger - they'll all leave on their journey, sized really quick.
Wouldn’t the choke need to be at the breech end of the barrel so the benefit of consistently sized pellets can be gained from the full length of the barrel rather than just the end. That way the power transfer will be more consistent across the pellet range ?

Dunno...the breech of a sausage stuffer is bigger than the casing tube & sausages end up the same size...😂🙂

Short answer is no🙄
Don't believe what it says on the tin, that's a general size just like the weight.
Just to back this up when I was searching for a pellet to suit my .22 tomahawk with a Webley barrel I bought some ftt that claimed 5.55mm on the tin, but the barracuda 15's I bought were a tighter fit in the breach. In the end 5.52 jsb were the best, I'm guessing cos the softer skirt sized themselves in the barrel.

i only sort by weight and it does help for sure BUT i dont do the headsize sorting its much harder
You cant even go by head size on tin in most case, i have had JSB exacts bigger in 4.51s than 4.53s!
Then you would need the bigger heads to size down.
like said above, try several types untill you find a pellet it like THEN try different batches untill you find a corker THEN buy a sleeve or two
But make sure the shop as plenty of stock of the tins you are trying.
it can be a pita

I start with the chrono where these results with the HW80 were a bit of an eye opener on pellet size.

With jumbo 5.51, the spread was 12.8fps.
With jumbo 5.52, spread was 23fps
With jumbo 5.53, spread was just 7.5fps with the average fps being the highest(y)

It may not be the root cause of the flyers, but it points to what the gun really likes as a good base to work from.

No slight on you at all but the 5.53 could easily be 5.51s etc by the tin markings.Thats just by my findings.
