So....pellet lube. Yay or nay?

I've always used it, no other oils down the barrel, just a pull through to clean now and then.

Useful if you've washed the pellets or maybe for old ones showing signs of oxidation. Not really worthwhile for new pellets straight from the tin which will have residual lube from manufacture.

Great point!

I sometimes do. And when I do I use a dry lube, LT1 👌

On lead free pellets, yes, they made a difference for me. LT1 difficult to get now....
But don't use on lead pellets, as did not make a difference for me.

I have a old bottle of Napier pellet lube and other thin oils and did some tests shooting targets over the Chrony with my PCP's and the pellet speed increased a little but accuracy stays the same , then with my springers I don't bother as they are oil burners and blow it up the barrel .

If the pellet speed increases, does that not flatten your trajectory and give more accuracy at range?

I don't normally lube pellets. But, at the 2nd range where I shoot at, (where its lead free only, due to the land being adjacent to a nature reserve), I was having trouble grouping and was offered some lube (LT1) on a few pellets. and it immediately halved the group size.

One could argue that washing pellets does actually have benefits. Because depending on the pellets used, the amount of lead swarf that can sometimes can be found in the tins Is shocking. And we all know that too much swarf stuck in a barrels rifling can indeed have a negative effect on accuracy 🤔

does an occasional lube help to keep the bore clean and lubricate the breach seal too?
yep, few pellets in the tin lid, quick spray with 3-in-one aerosol, sorted ... no messing with pull throughs😄

well, the common lube is bike chain wax form Finish Line
but there is a but
if you wash pellets they need some sort of coating and the wax will do that
if you have new pellets and what to will go ahead none of us care what you do would i and i see most posters no
and if as stated you have some old pellets that are oxidized and washed they need a coating
and is it like watching paint dry not really but how would i know how slow paint dries in the UK
now here is the wild card how dirty are your pellets, all RWS pellets are as clean as they could be Crosman pellets are filthy
do what you want no body should care
mike in the states Happy Holidays
