Had the scope 3.5 years, and it's been great up to an including this Friday evening, when I used it at dusk. It also worked when I got home after shooting, and it was stored on my air rifle, in a foam lined hard case overnight.

Saturday morning, I tried to upgrade the firmware, using two files emailed to my by Pard. Instructions being to copy both files to a micro SD card, put that in the Pard (turned off), short press the power button, wait c. 30 seconds for the Pard logo before doing anything else. I followed these to the letter but now my Pard is completely unresponsive. It simply will not power on.

I am unsure if the upgrade failed and "damaged" the scope, or if the scope somehow broke overnight, and the update therefore hasn't even started.

I have charged two different batteries, and tried both, ensuring correct polarity etc. I don't think it is a battery issue.

I've emailed the chap at Pard who sent me the files to ask for help, but wondered if anyone here has any experience of similar, or advice on how to resolve.

So you have taken the card out now?
I might be tempted to take the battery out, leave it for half a minute, press the power button (with no battery) for a few seconds, then put the battery back in and try again.

yes, taken the SD card out
battery has been out since yesterday, tried your suggestion and still nothing sadly.

It may be that they have supplied the wrong firmware for the hardware due to some missed communication issue.
I might be tempted to sign up to nightvisionforumuk.com and ask on there.
We could probably track down what hardware you have, and what firmware, but it would be quicker to ask Bruce via that site.

thank you, will try that.
I hope not incorrect firmware though, I supplied the model and serial number to Pard to avoid that.

Did you checksum it (assuming they gave the checksum)
I've a few ideas but only doing this occasionally I'd probably just be wasting time when Bruce who has been through the process hundreds of times, and will know what to check.

they made no mention of a checksum, just attached two files to an email (FWPLD008.bin & LDPLD008.bin)
I am waiting on the NV forum admin to approve my registration but will ask there. Thanks for all your help.

Did the firmware actually download…?
If it did and itx the wrong firmware then the scope is probably bricked
I genuinely do not know, I pressed the power button as instructed and nothing happened. I was expecting the Pard logo to appear after 30 seconds from the email from Pard.

There was a few firmwares at the time and getting the right one was crucial.. and not being able to down grade firmware …. and it mainly centered around the model … ie
008 lrf
008 non lrf
008p lrf
008p non lrf
008s lrf
008s non lrf

mine is 008P LRF, info which I gave to Pard, along with my serial number. Will be an interesting conversation if they sent the wrong one!

positive update, had a chat with Pard UK this morning, they've requested I post the device to them and will try to fix it. Might need a new motherboard. They indicated they "may" have sent the wrong files, apparently all files have the same name, for each of the models. Fingers crossed they can resolve quickly and get it back to me quickly

Brilliant, that firmware naming scares the life out of me.
That was part of the reason I didn't think it was worth digging too much, without a checksum, or some other way to check it was the right file.
To be fair to them if they are prepared to fix it, then you should not lose much beyond some days without it.

yup, I think they sent the wrong file and it bricked it. Why on earth they do not name the files differently is beyond me.
TBF to him, he was keen to help and has offered to replace the motherboared FOC as the file he sent seems to have caused the issue.
I was expecting to have to replace so this is a much cheaper outcome (assuming he can fix it)

Out of interest If the pard was working fine why do a firmware upgrade? If its not broke don't fix it!!! Hope you get it sorted
now this ^ is a really good question and one I've been berating myself for not asking myself. The answer is habbit. I always upgrade firmware on all devices, it feels like best practice to remain up to date. Not gonna lie, regretting it on this occasion! Thank you though

Final update from me to share 5* service from Pard UK.

I sent my unit to them on Monday, and have just received it back. They have replaced the motherboard, updated and tested the firmware, they've even aligned the LRF cursor with the splash. All for no charge. And to top it off, they've included a free pen.

I know some people struggle to get hold of Pard in the UK so asked about it. Troy said that Pard initially gave out his personal mobile number, which he is no longer answering for work calls. If anyone needs support, they should call Troy on his work mobile 07932 888529 (he gave me permission to share this publicly).

nice pen 🙂

To be fair on Pard (UK service side) that was a good recovery. If they had checksums and decent file names should not have happened, but when it had, can't ask for more.
