Original model 5 pistol .177

WOW, thank you so much for the write up.
I was given the same pistol 40 years ago by a local kid, the stock was painted white and the metal had some surface rust.
I gently removed the paint, the metal work I rubbed back with scotchbrite BUT this removed all the blacking.

By then I had recovered from a bike crash, so I put it all back together, put it in a box and its sat there ever since.
Maybe a winter project

Hi, im glad the thread was enjoyable! Sounds like you have a perfect winter project and could re blue the metalwork. Great pistols these πŸ‘

Hi Dan. Yeah its allot of fun. It deserves to be fully restored but im happy enough to use it a little in the rough.

I was hitting the odd spinner at 25m at the range with it standing unsupported last Monday, put a few entries in the july pistol comp recently too and more cutting the deck. Heres some more pic/updates for thread πŸ‘

Ive stuck a little extension on the front sight post to give adjustment at 6 yards.

This was pretty cool. Hit a playing card 25 meters rested!

Brilliant write up, so interesting πŸ‘

Thread resurrection! 🀣

What a cracking read this is, and top job fettling that lovely old pistol.

I've just got a Model 5 (wood grip) in .22 cal that I bought on here, it's pretty tidy and will go well with my Model 6, although the 'carton' box for my 6 is in much nicer condition. I've also got a boxed 5g in .177 calibre but I'm deciding whether to move that one on. I do love these old pistols though, cracking build quality!

Cheers for the post, glad the thread was a good read πŸ™‚

I saw the model 5 .22 in sales and thought it looked in great nick! Nice. Unlike my model 5 which really isnt in good shape πŸ˜†πŸ‘

It is nice considering age. Not mint but it wasn't described as such, but yes much cleaner than the one you tackled!

Are you still enjoying shooting it? I think I might tackle giving mine a service at some point as it's doing just shy of 2ft/lb with RWS Hobby. I know it won't do much more anyway, but this thread will definitely help if I can get some service parts, so thanks again πŸ‘πŸ»

Yes i still enjoy shooting it but am more into rifles again. Occasionally out to 25 meters and hit things every now and then πŸ˜† at 6 yards/10m etc its pretty accurate really and my mistakes are the problem.

Last time i chronod it it was around 2.5ft lb so its gone down a bit. In theory at least id of thought the .22 should make power a bit easier. Worth a go at servicing.

Diana/Original have some weird ways of doing things on the design and the model 5 is no different! Still, its not the worst thing to work on πŸ‘

Edit. Ill get it out again soon and update the thread with a target or something πŸ™‚
