.....Step up Ballzup.

Right, sitting out on the decking with a coffee this fine morning and I thought that pre a visit to the range this morning I'd fill up the HW100. I can do this at the range but the squirrels were active on a feeder about 20m away so my luck might have been in.

I have 2 PCP's, the HW and and an R10. Both fill probes are in my kit bag with the 'best fittings' doobry on both ready to plug in the the other best fiitings doobry on the fill tank whip.

So, I've plugged the BSA fill probe into the Weihrauch haven't I, and it became apparent when starting to fill when there was a bit of a pop and hiss and now I cant get the BSA probe out of the tank, as below:

Fill Probe.jpg

I cant unscrew the tank as the fill probe hits the barrel and stops it rotating. I dont want to start hitting the other end of the probe with a drift to force it out as I don't know what will happen. Same for forcing with a gorillagrip round the probe after disconnecting from the best fitting thingy. I'm presuming a seal has gone on the probe and is just stuck, maybe on the tank too. The tank pressure is about 100BAR so I want to be careful.

I've now marked both fittings with a 'B' and a 'W' - bit late maybe!

Desperate situation, desperate measures.... I'd try injecting some silicone oil into the filler hole.
Some might come out the other end- good news if so. Then try a spanner to turn the whole thing, wiggling if poss and lift at the same time.

Thanks lads, I've put it down and haven't tried anything yet as I thought I'd appeal for help first. There's already been one pressure related incident this last few days. I didn't people to be reading about another!

Doh , fair play for being honest . Makes a change from ehooting a chrono ( yes i have , twice ) Personally i havent made a mistake since yesterday and ive been up 3 hrs..... Ah , nope , scratch that , i broke my glasses looking for the dogs ball earlier . Yesterday i left the interior light on in the car for >24hrs and drained the battery , jump lead start from cottage owner as its in the middle of heavenly nowhere . Luckily I've no guns or chrono's up here to feck up.

I do hope you can sort it soon pal .

The fact that you have been able to remove the quick fitting means that the internal valve is OK, or it would have dumped all the air, so it's just displaced one or both of the O rings but with 200bar behind it can be well and truly wedged, so I would try WD40 or silicone oil and a hefty pair of grips twist and pull before you try the drift method.

Cheers mate. We've just had our dog trimmed and the dog's ball is now very apparent!!

I would suggest it’s not a fatal or even particularly serious event.
Yes as above it would be best if you could remove the cylinder but you won’t be able to with that lot sticking out. You can’t remove the barrel because you need to get to the grub screw which is hidden by the cylinder.

My guess from your description is that the BSA probe is smaller dia than the W one and the oring has has blown out into the gap between probe and fill hole face. If you have another brass bsa probe remove the orings from it and tap it in from the from the other side and it should push the stuck one out without too much damage. If you aren’t confident to do that take it someone who is. Use brass or a soft metal and soft headed hammer as a hard metal may scrape the inside of the W fill hole…

^^^^ try this first… if you use WD40 tho you must clean it all out throughly before you refill…. silicone oil/grease would be ideal.

If someone can tell you the metal diameter sizes of the 2 filler probes, providing the HW100 probe is rather greater than the R10 then there is more chance of drifting it out. Similarly there would also be more chance (last resort horrors!) of reaming out the inside until it disintegrates without damaging the HW 100.
Why oh Why do manufacturers do this as a moneymaker when a fixed male fast fit plus cover is cheap and easy?

That one had occured to me. Is there a downside to dry firing though?
Not much. But you can also very gently turn barrel until a you hear a tiny hiss, fire 2, turn again, etc etc gently until no hiss is heard. THat way, the barrel can be removed with pressure in it. Dry firing takes longer but is fairly safe- just dont go too fast.

Since you have removed the whip, the fill probe cannot possibly be under pressure. Therefore it must just be and o ring displaced on the fill probe making it tight. Have a can of man up and pull it out.

If you are still concerned, fire a few shots to drop the cylinder pressure and the will double dog dare make sure the fill valve is closed.

Just starting the 'can of man up' when I saw the 'new message' glint on my screen, so beat you to it by a good 5 seconds.
