Thanks for having me in the group, new to air rifles (but not weapons, ex forces). Been trawling tinterweb/You Tube vids (mostly on night shifts) for info as a newbie but my heads getting fuzzed so decided to join this group for help/continued advice instead 👍🏻 I’ll lay it ALL down now:

Around £500 set up/package budget (Mrs will go mental if she sees £££ leaving bank on a ‘fad’)

Mostly vermin but will occasionally target shoot as have 3 kids (in teens) and want them to experience as much as possible.

Been looking at Reminex Myth, Kral NP02 & Gamo Phox… Like the tactical look & shorter barrel… Lyra K has also been mentioned?

Like the idea of a multi shot PCP (using all the lingo now!)

Is it an idea to get a better rifle & spend less on a scope, with a view to upgrading sights? 2nd hand kit so better all round, I’m not sure?

I’d really like to be handed a set up & be told this will be great for you, crack on but I know there’s a lot of kit & opinions out there. I’ve a few local gun shops with Range & Country not a million miles away so plan to pop in…

Any advice appreciated! Thanks all! 👍🏻

Hi MunkyMariner and welcome. Personally I would go to a reputable gun shop, tell them your requirements and preferences and try and see and handle the guns you fancy. Nothing at all wrong with the gamo phox you mention, I dont know about the others sorry but seeing and handling may help in your choice. Best of luck and dont be afraid to ask on here if you have any concerns before buying. Let us know how you get on.
Cheers
Chris.
Edit. Nowt wrong with good second hand either but the risk is yours. Most gunshops have used guns too. Hope this helps.

Thanks for such a quick response 👍🏻 Any advice really is appreciated… I just don’t want to be rail roaded into buying something from a shop (probably more local than R&C I guess) just because it’s been in stock a while etc… You can’t beat forum advice! Is there anything I should/shouldn’t be looking for at this price? Thanks again 👍🏻

I don't know how you intend to fill them but if you are thinking of a hand pump rather than a compressor or dive bottle I would avoid the Myth and NP02, filling those larger bottles will get old very quickly.
Blimey I hadn’t even thought that far ahead… 😬 I’d this something a local gun shop could help with? Any idea how much a fill would cost? Thanks for adding to the headache… 😂

Alright, welcome to the forum, from first hand experience I can only comment on the Kral as I have one in 177.
You do get a massive shot count on tap but the pay off is it's not as lightweight as it looks due to the extra bottle.
You do however get a lot of rifle for your money, adjustable power, dovetail and picatinny rails etc, it is loud though because the barrel is short so you'll need a decent mod like a Weihrauch or A&M Twink.

The other option is to get up to 50 meaningful posts on here by asking questions about rifles you can't quite afford new like Airarms etc and wait for one to come up secondhand.
This forum is full if decent guys & gals selling gear because they want an upgrade, well looked after & non abused gear at reasonable prices without the risk of being scammed like on Guntrader or Gunstar.

Just don't rush in yet and weigh everything up.

Welcome @MunkyMariner , there are a few reputable shops in and around Lincolnshire depending on where abouts you are. Can’t recommend enough just going in for a peruse and see how they feel, even with the youngsters as may help influence the choice 👍🏼
I wouldn’t worry for longer term filling as a hand pump will suffice for a while and then progress to a bottle. I used to fill paint ball sized bottles with a hand pump!! It does take some effort but they don’t empty quickly either unless you feeding pellets like no tomorrow 🤷🏽
By all means keep us updated and ask away, it’s a cracking source of advice, especially if asking should you buy more than one rifle 🤣

Think the advice given is spot on so far, if you're in no rush mooch about, shoulder some rifles close to home and then see if you can access the sales section, pre owned you get plenty more and a few on offer will have been refined. Used bottles aren't expensive it's more about if you can get one locally sourced longer term. Good look

Howdy bud & welcome, plenty of good suggestions already on here for rifles.
Half decent glass can be got from 50-£100 and a hand pump will do most guns, just maybe not all in one sitting dependant on CC
We may not be that far apart and you are welcome to try any of my current 3, a myth being one of them topped with an acog clone.

Welcome to the forum, great to have you here👍
The Reximex Myth is a good choice for your first PCP (it was also mine!) I have owned mine from new for around 18 months now and have been really pleased with it. Cost me at the time £374 from Range & Country, who also delivered it to me. The magazines tend to be a little on the tight side until they wear in but mine have been fine after being used a few times. You will need to buy a mod as they are quite noisy without one! I should say that since buying the Myth I have added the HW110 and 100 to the collection but still use the myth as much as I do them. It is almost as accurate, which is amazing for a budget gun. I use the Myth for hunting and plinking, it is very good for both. If you want to hunt with it the synthetic stock is a good idea.
Highest complement I can pay the Myth is that I would but it again without hesitation if something happened to the one I have.

Good evening.

You’ve got a few decent picks there for a rifle, but as everyone else says you’ll need to fill it up with air. You can use a pump but in general they’re not that great for filling up and you’ll soon get tired.

A dive bottle will eat half your budget.

What if I told you there was another option you’ve not yet considered? The spring! It’s just a case of an underlever or a break barrel. Jump on Guntrader and have a look what’s going near you.

Do you know what calibre you want? Generally .177 for targets and .22 for small hunting though you can hunt with .177 with headshots.

PCP:

- Rifle
- Optics
- Pellets
- Air source

Spring:
- Rifle
- Optics
- Pellets

Stick around here and add value to the forum and you’ll soon have access to the sales area. In there you’ll find other members willing to sell their gear.

Save a bit more and go for a S/H HW100 outfit.
Stirrup pumps do take an effort, but I coped quite easily as a 60 yo,having smoked Old Holburn for 40 years when I started with PCPs.
My first PCP was a S/H RM8 Varmint .22 U/C with a 4-16 sight/Webley Pump/bag.£400
You can now pick these up new for £500 with Pump/Sight/Bag/Silencer, but they have a reputation for being unreliable.
Mine (I now have two, both bought S/H) have been fine.
I switched to a Compressor/bottle as my collection grew.(2xHW100,Dreamline and others all S/H)
Having three teenagers on tap should solve your filling problems,if your own health is not up to it.
Worry about a compressor/bottle/both later on.
Lots of good replies after I started typing this.(y)
