I was making space in my freezer and removed a half pack of Aldi Omega 3 fish fingers (don't judge).
Of course, I forgot they were on the side, until I spotted them 24hrs later (being yesterday).
I decided I'd put them out for the rats.
There were six left in the pack so I dropped four under my rat feeder (on a field close by), which is basically a slab of wood, held off the deck by a tripod of 3" fence post blocks, with ~25kg composite concrete blocks stacked on top, to stop the landowners dog, cats, and the hedgehog eating the bait.
I put two more down a hole that the rats use (they pass under it anyway) and realised that virtually blocked the hole, so was probably a mistake as it was a new feed and might spook them.
Long story short I went over to help the guy put the last birds away for the night, and noticed the hole was clear, so I assume the cats had clawed them out, on checking the feeder, in daylight, a rat ran off.
That doesn't happen here, there are probably one or two about, but tiny numbers and night time only, very nervous.
So this seems to be the take away, bread covered fish produce, goes down well with the rodents, to the point they might forget their fear, to get in before the cats can.
Completely cleaned out this morning, and got me wondering if it was worth the ~£1.40 for another pack, as two sticks would probably be a good bait, and there are fifteen in a pack.
I've been running down old rice and various other baits, but nothing has worked like that.
