New plaster targets

I'm assuming mixing with flour will make them explode more easily. I've found a watery mix works better. Also tried adding washing up liquid to the water, which makes them aerated like a whisper bar, and they break more easily.
Here's the mould I use

Why do you add corn flower to the mix?
I've only used plaster of paris made watery enough to make make the mix fluid so it poor into the mold easily

I use FINE plaster, (not sure if thats the same as plaster of paris?) and corn flour. ISTR that I read somewhere that the starch in the corn flour gives the moulded item a bit of extra strength, so I assume if you don't add the flour the moulded item may be a bit too fragile?
Ive only made them with fine plaster and corn flour and it worked for me, about 1/3rd flour and two thirds plaster was the mix I used.

I think it is essentially all the same POP or Fine Moulding plaster, you can buy small bags from art shops or bulk bags from Builders merchants for the same price... What you %age water to powder? Mine recommended 2 parts powder to water, but that was too thick, more of a paste than a fluid so I used something more like 1.5 to 1 water which gave a much more fluid plaster to pour into the moulds.

Interesting about the cornflour though, my finished targets are fine and the ice cube mould I don't think has enough fine detail to really worry about. I'll try adding string to them next time, I currently just drill a whole and hang them on a hook.

I did find that the hands of my lego men broke off in the moulds so maybe the cornflour will keep that detail :)

I just added enough water until it was starting to get quite thick, did not measure the water though sorry!
If you have ever mixed prompt cement, it was a bit like that, thick and fast setting.
Next time I think I will add a bit more water so it does not get so thick and does not set quite so fast.

Hi where did u get the Star Wars moulds from ??

love the ideas in this thread, i have a few boxes of out of date paracetamol (dissolvable) they explode quite well and also fit in a bottle top if required.

Regards
Nic
Make sure you pick up or wash them away if you have pets or kids in the garden.
My dog will eat anything interesting she can find in the garden!!
