The real Mak has plastic (bakelite) grips.Nothing just a bit plasticky considering the rest of the pistol is so solid and heavy
A belated Happy NPD.Been after one of these for a while to add to collection.
First impressions... very heavy and solidly made. Lead bbs plenty work well.
Just the plastic grip needs replacing.
Anyone done this?
The plastic grips on your Makarov are not the same as the 'Bakelite' grips of the real thing, and you're correct - the standard 654k grips do let the side down a little on such a well-built gun. Rusmilitary sometimes get genuine grips in stock, they sometimes appear on deact sites like D&B and it may be worth trying a wanted ad on here when you get to the post level that allows access. As with all Russian stuff, Makarov bits are getting harder to find and will only become more scarce. The real Mak has plastic (bakelite) grips.
This is not exactly a plastic, this is bakelite. Plywood impregnated with bakelite resin, a Soviet composite from the 1930s.I know what you mean having had one of those Makarovs some time ago, but plastic grips are more or less prototypical.

I’ve been after one for a bit but didn’t fancy the umarex one. I kept missing them on gunstar as they were priced expensively . I mentioned it at the club and one if the guys sold me his. Boxed as new. I now see that the handle is standard.A belated Happy NPD.
That looks an awesome pistol.
Hope you don't mind me asking, how and where did you find it?
Without feeling the gun, a nice oiled hardwood wooden handle would look great.
Is it a bakalite or plastic handle?
