We used to shoot gophers below the house on the pasture with the M 44.
Noisy little beasts though!

Re muzzle blast,...

It was still full daylight, but the flash made it appear like it was evening.
Was minus 20 C at the time.
And no, the gophers weren't out!

I have owned 2 of these, one Russian and another Polish version.
Loved them both, rough on the shoulder with surplus ammo but the fireworks were something to see!!
