Hi all
It's no secret that I'm a bit of a Steyr fan and my absolute favourite rifle in my collection is my Steyr Challenge HFT hunting, fitted out for FT which gets easily 90%+ of my trigger time.
A few months back, I scratched a long-time nostalgic itch for an Air Arms EV2 and picked one up. It's a fine rifle but I didn't really click with it and felt it was a little wasted on me. One of my buddies at the club has been after it since I got it and was dropping hints, and the chance to pick up another Steyr presented itself so within 24 hours the EV2 was passed along, and the money was in one hand and out the other to replace it with something that is definitely more me
The new (to me) 2014 Steyr LG110 HFT
That's more like it!
It shoots like a dream and after the amount of time spent shooting the Challenger, shooting it feels like second nature and after shooting and maintaining a Steyr rifle for so long, I feel like I know them through and through so have a lot more confidence in it.
It's shooting a steady 770fps and on the day I picked it up at the club, after a rough zero with the Falcon M18 I have on it I chucked some of my usual Exact 8.44's through it and shot a few solid sub 5p sized group at 40 yards with it, so it's right on the money
It came with some laminate woodwork, but I'm not a huge fan of the colour scheme and found it a little too gaudy for my taste...
Nicely shaped and comfy, but too loud for me so I stripped it and fitted the original black woodwork it came with that was chucked in with the sale. It was missing a hamster but I had the OEM one from my Challenge spare as that was replaced with a Rowan setup.
The Steyr black grip didn't come with the metal spacers though so I've messaged Steyr UK to see if they have any in stock, though I may look at a more subdued laminate set at some point, maybe something dark like blue/black or similar.
I intend to keep this one set up in an HFT style and may have a dabble at that, but I love the idea of having a second Steyr set up so it my primary FT rifle ever goes TITSUP (Total Inability To Support Usual Performance), I can quickly switch the FT bits over to it and it will feel like the same gun.
Looking good next to the FT rig
Need to get a Steyr family photo with the Challenge, LG110, H5A and Evo 10 together next
