Today is Dads birthday, so in keeping with tradition we try and find him something *interesting*.

Behold! The latest "WTF is that???"

From messages thus far recieved he is well entrenched in the garage working out whats missing, what it's supposed to be, and catching bits that fall off.

On the bright side it does have a half decent set of mounts on it...

If an Airsporter and a Mk.1 Enfield were fired at each other in the Hadron Collider this is pretty much what you'd get.
Well, with a bit of duct tape and Gorilla glue thrown in for good measure.

Hey, how many HFT rigs can boast they have their very own bona fide bayonet mount eh?

OK ... I can't resist so here is an update on what I found on a visual inspection. The rifle is still 'as is' except for ... wait for that. First job was to ensure barrel was free ... yes I have known guns arrive with a barrel full of pellets. Next, break the action ... broke cleanly but hang on, no compression. Surely not. Yes, action was cocked (but no pellet in tap) but trigger was so stiff that my cursory pull (rifle pointed at the trap box) did nothing. A look at mainspring through the cocking slot did indeed show a compressed spring. Added pellet, pulled harder and whoomph it fired; not too badly. But wooden bit next to tap fell off; it had been glued on. Loaded another pellet, trigger very stiff but fired. Out with chrono ... approx 7 ftlb so tlc needed. Further examination suggests the action has been held in a vice at some time .. typical vice marks on cylinder. Stiff end block? Insulating tape on underlever ... maybe to stop a rattle? Not removed it yet. Stock is in a dismal state and has several signs of not very good repair from splits. No butt pad and no space for oil bottle etc that was on the SMLE so maybe it is not a SMLE stock? Any suggestions? Maybe it is the original Airsporter stock but with added on bits? A strip may tell. Serial number is GD13233 so a MK2 Airsporter from 1959/65. G is a bit faint but I cannot see it being anything else. Next phase is full strip .......
Hey ho, cheers, Phil
