I started out managing grey squirrels on one woodland plot almost two years ago, and last year picked up a second. Thanks to the deer stalkers sharing those areas, I’ve now added a third adjoining plot forming a decent clump of woodland to work with.
After a couple of hours at one of my feeders, I saw just one visitor, which was dealt with cleanly. I packed up and took my first wander around the new ground. Dry conditions and thick undergrowth made stealth tricky, but by walking slowly and pausing frequently to observe, I managed to bag two more squirrels.
Overall, the woods have been quieter this year compared to last, but I’m well pleased with today’s hunt and the first recce of the newest plot.
