On the recommendation from my sister who uses these Black Cat rat traps on her land. I decided to make a couple of cages up and purchase a couple of traps after finding a couple of recent holes in the bank behind my shed..
After setting up 1st night nothing. 2nd night had a rat in the trap when checked the following morning at around 9 O’clock. Reset the trap and a couple of hours later, I glanced at the trap and thought traps gone off. 😳
Looked closer and the biggest rat I’ve seen in a very long time laid in the cage..

Bought a couple of those traps, they're serious stuff.

Sure are good traps and they have some serious power in those springs too. So easy to set and not having to worry about fingers like when setting fen traps..
Black cats very good traps. If you need smaller versions or for more confined spaces “green tomb traps” for under kitchen plinth’s etc.

Good to know of the green tomb traps too and reasonable priced too.👍

That may be the solution to my rat in the chickens problem. Countless nights sat up with my trusty FX Dreamline and Arken setup, several have suffered from high velocity lead poisoning but there is one that just won't turn up when i'm there waiting (30m away behind camo net, wind the right direction etc etc). Put the trail cam in and there he is dancing and giving me the proverbial rat finger.

To my question - what guage and hole size is your cage made with ?, nice setup by the way, i'm going to build one myself, thanks for posting the pics, any chance of some dimensions please - if it works don't fix it😀

My sister actually uses these traps in the chicken runs where she gets the majority of the rats. The traps are in the cages, so safe from the chickens not setting them off or getting caught in them.👍 The chickens actually push the cages out the way if corn or pellets land under them.🤣

A cage take about an hour to make from 25mm mesh. 18 squares long and 8 square. Each bay is 6 squares long.
3 by 3 diagonally squares cut out in each section so rats can go completely through them and an 8 by 8 door hinged for access to the trap.
I use Gabion clips, as I have plenty laying about. Although cable ties will do the same job..

Good luck with the little project and I hope you catch they elusive rodent.

Not too sure on the gauge of wire, it’s just what I had laying around. Gotta be 20-22 wire gauge.

If you need anymore pictures of the trap.let me know and I take some more.👍

Built the cage, bought the trap, appears Mr (or Mrs, Ms, They, Him, Her, It) is quite trap-aware. But I have a plan..
