A quick review after a few weeks of owning a new scope, like most who shoot HFT we have all tried the usual culprits (Optisan CP, Vortex Viper) plus I ordered the new Falcon S10i, which seemed to be a perfect new model, until a recent round of the nationals at Nomads where, shooting from bright sun, into dark trees you would totally lose the plate, which a few others also found.

So, finally I thought just treat yourself, so a call to March scopes (who were incredibly helpful), I placed the order for the SFP version of the 1-10 range, with the MML mildot ret, which seems to be the best option for the end use.

The model number is D10V24TIML, at the time they unfortunately only had the IR model, which was a whopping £300 more (right choice will go into later), as the scopes are usually built to order they advised it could be a 3 month wait, so I went for it.

The scope arrived at 10am the next day, superb service, on unpacking you get the usual manual, cleaning cloth, flip covers, throw ring and the small tool to reset the turrets, but no sunshade! A quick call and that’s an extra item, another £50 please 🙈

Also it came with a sheet that covers the setup, dialling in and focus. I had been advised they can be a little tricky to setup and advised to use the eye ring focus and side focus in partnership to get the best image, however the printed instruction were super clear and easy to follow.

Set up on the rifle with a set of BKL mounts, I was going to order a more pricey set but these all lined up and clamped nicely.
Now the important bit, how does it perform……

The glass as you would expect from a Japanese scope is crystal clear, the eye focus ring has a wider adjustment than advertised, but is very sensitive, once I got the ret in perfect focus, which took a while, it’s a fine adjustment so you end up twiddling for a while, I followed the instruction of covering the lens with white tissue and focus the ret against the background, it certainly helped.
Eye relief quoted at 86-90mm which is perfect.

The scope is relatively lightweight at 520gms, total length 260mm so you just get two piece rings on the Steyr breech.

The ret is the MML illuminated, essentially a half mildot, turrets are tactical style with a wider adjustment up to 56 miles at 0.1 increments

The Turrets are non locking but move with a firm click, so should not accidentally move in the bag, the focus ring has a very smooth action, so easy to shift, however as it’s behind the IR mechanism, again it’s shouldn’t move in the bag.

The side focus is rated at 10yds to infinity, however, and this is where a top scope excels but you compromise, the focus can be set almost anywhere and the clarity of the glass means you get very little blur, I managed to get a faint blur at around 40yds after a lot of tweaking, and that is the compromise with high end optics.

The zoom is super smooth, just enough pressure to not move, as with all LPVO scopes at 10x there is a little blur around the edges, however does not affect your aim.

The ret is very clear, and easy to read, it’s uncomplicated and good for bracketing, the IR is superb and the full ret illuminates, it’s not over bright, even on the highest setting and is a simple push button on the side, using the usual 2032 battery.

So, after a few weeks of testing, am I happy, well totally, it does take a little adapting due to the glass clarity, as with every scope you have compromises, with this it’s the clarity without the blur for ranging, it’s lightweight and once zeroed it tracks perfectly and stays where you leave it.

Link below, yes it’s pricey, but you get what you pay for and it’s a lifetime investment

Nice review ,are you at misfits tomorrow? would be nice to have a peek throu this scope as James mac said the falcon was equal in optics quality

I had one of these but with a different reticle.

Excellent glass but I have a vestibular condition that makes it difficult to dial in scopes with a tight depth of field so I decided to sell it.

When I did have it set just right the detail I could see was incredible.

I should clarify that a feature like a tight depth of field is likely a benefit to many. Just not for me.

The depth of field is tight, but about average for a 24mm lens, it’s quoted as 2 degrees or 10ft at 100yds, but for HFT it’s about right, at 45 yards it’s a large view, down to 10 yards the plate fills the picture.

If using on a full bore rifle it probably would be best suited for short range, ideal for target use.

He also struggled at the nationals with the Falcon in the dark background shots, he passed me grumbling about not seeing the kill zones 🤣

Fantastic review.... sounds top notch.
I feel inadequate now with my Delta Stryker 1-6x24 HD!.
The Delta is a superb scope, unfortunately the 1-10x28 I ordered was faulty and had to go back ( centre lens was out of plane so it would never quite focus), that was awesome glass, they never replaced it, hence I went for the March

I think you're referring to field of view. I'm referring to depth of field, or the range of distance an object appears in focus. The March 10x erector scopes are notoriously tight. Again, that's an advantage for many, particularly when using focus to determine range. Just doesn't work for me with my vestibular issues.

Lovely scope, and almost (in a good way) not a LPVO!

Nice review ! Having been partial to the LPVO platform for a good few years now , owning many different brands from budget to obscene yet the March is the only one I’ve not dipped into yet , I will at some point though :)

Thanks for taking the time 🍺

Congratulations on the new scope. March have a fantastic line up of 1-8 and 1-10 scopes. I have an ffp 1-8 with side parallax which is a brilliant airgun scope. The IR is a useful addition as you will find it great for shooting in the woods. Enjoy

Really useful review. Thank you for saying there's no blur for distance estimation - my wallet finger was beginning to twitch and my credit cards were starting to beg for mercy, but they're safe now (for a while)
