Lubing your piston?

I use CV joint moly paste at about 3% content and it's about 10 quid for half a litre. I've it used it on all my springers for years and it's worked faultlessly. No dieseling, no wear and tear, no rust, shoots beautifully and lasts for years without the need to reapply.

Some prices for 'gun' specific moly grease makes me laugh out loud....

Just a little Molybdenum grease is the way to lube the piston, be aware of something i discovered in lubricating semi auto shotguns of various kinds in wildfowling conditions, nothing rusts a long bolt spring and the rear spring tube in the wet and salt like molybdenum, and its almost like it encourages oxidisation.
Nothing works better long term or if guns are used in bad weather or salt spray than Morris Lube Ankor wax, a light coating of this fluid dries to a durable tough protective barrier applying molybdenum grease over this in a springer will not effect performance in anyway and will stop dead any rust issues due to moisture ingress be it condensation or in weather.
Just sayin.
OH! And NO! its not going to turn into a waxy sticky mess that severely hinders performance either.

To much lube on piston runs risk of migrating forward into area of swept volume.
Where piston has bearings, as in the TX200 / Prosport, there is also the risk of turning bearing into a damper.
The contact point, as evidenced by witness marks, for break barrels, is rear of piston skirt opposite cocking slot.
Polish and burnish with high moly in this area, together with minimal wipe of STP to side of piston seal.
