Looks like this is my home for the next week

How about testing something like this? I’ve always wanted to know if they work or whether the are just a damp squib?

Strange you should mention that, Mike.

Guess what I've got screwed to the side of my Hairyarms stand?

A double-barrel version...

They're actually quite good and work well. But the effect is only as good as the explosive and streamers/glitter in the party popper itself.

I've got a video somewhere (as I do). I think they're shown in this one...

I spent years doing the three shift pattern and the 12 hour nights and days when needed, then the train drivers shifts which clock on at any hour or minute you can think of. Used to wake up feeling like I'd got flu. Now I don't set an alarm, just wake naturally and roll in about 90 minutes later. I dropped really lucky when my company opened a new depot in my home town and made me the manager.

Agreed, shift work Is definitely no good for the body. I did split shifts for 28 continuous years, 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, and the occasional 10pm-6am. But luckily I took early retirement due to health problems 6 years ago. And it literally took me months to get my sleep pattern back to any kind of normality 😧

I used to work that 3-shift rota myself and I used to love the 6am-2pm morning shift because you had the whole afternoon and evening to do things. (y)

I hated the 2pm-10pm shift because, when you got up in the morning, there seemed little point in doing anything because I was always thinking about having to get ready for work!

Wouldn't put up with it mate, tell them your not used to slumming it 🤣
It certainly looks a lot better than Ramsgate though, that's for sure 😁👍

I've worked on the Ramsgate and Cliffsend tunnels a few times recently, and I usually stay at the Premier Inn Ramsgate (Manston Airport). (y)

I had one of the "popper" targets, they are a bit cr*p IMHO. The actual metal targets work ok, they "pop" the popper by pulling a bit of string when the plate is hit.....but the poppers themselves are rubbish, if you shoot them more than about 5m away then you can't hear them, as they are not that loud, thats assuming they do go off, as many just pop quietly but make almost no sound, a bit of a let down really. Good idea, but not executed that well. (n)

Fully agree, Peter.

You're right, at 20-25m away the pellet hitting the plate makes more noise than the popper going 'bang'.

Having said that, I've only ever used super-cheapo poppers in mine, with minimal bang and streamers.

Might have to find some 'luxury' party poppers instead. ;)

The first time I ever flew was to Zakinthos in Greece. On the way home they landed us at Manston to refuel to get to Manchester. I remember it being mostly an RAF base and it had the longest runway in Britain.
