Can anyone recommend a starter package, probably recurve, for an adult with a 32" draw (me).

I have absolutely no idea where to start, but looking to keep cost very sensible

Not opposed to used kit, as long as consumables and spares can still be got

Cheers Rob

Rob,
Recurve style but which sub style?
Olympic, barebow takedown, barebow wooden traditional, longbow ??
And what discipline, target, field or 3D?

32” is a long draw length, and depending on bow poundage will require stiffer arrows (spine) than a shorter draw length.
Like a springer every item in the system has an effect of the performance of the system and so choosing carefully is key to save lots of equipment upgrades.

Usual “novice” purchases end up with too heavy draw weight in the bow limbs which affect form, consistency and can cause injury.

Like shooting, a club is a good way to start and get the basics right, I guess you know that though 😌🤠

Happy to help if I can.

Based on my very limited recent experience I would say a 70" recurve with a marked draw weight of 20lbs, because it will be a lot more than that at 32" draw. Can be adjusted of course. Non-ILT system bows are very cheap here. Mine was €40, marked at 36lbs but adjusted down to its minimum of 31. When you have an accurate draw weight and draw length you can get some arrows. It is a long winded process and in my case took many months because of long delivery and a 6 week shutdown over Christmas. As PD said, avoid going over the top with the draw weight as it isn't necessary initially and will avoid injury.

Unless you're a giant, or an orangutan, you may be measuring your draw length incorrectly. 32" is very long. Get yourself to a club, learn the basics, and let the experienced archers advise you.

I've remeasured using the Wingspan method and my draw is 30.8"
Had a long chat with a bloke from Merlin today and bought one of their packages

I assume you are quite a tall chap then!
Can't go far wrong with Merlin, my compound target bow that won me several country medals is a Merlin.

Hi Rob. If you are ok with second hand then I have 100s for sale
I’ve got traditional and modern to suit any budget and some lovely high end stuff if you find yourself going down this rabbit hole

Hi Josh
Yes you have one or two there 😅

I've just bought a recurve setup to get started. I work with a disabled guy who fancies trying archery. If he gets on with it, he may end up with the bow I bought, so I may quickly need another, then I'll stick a wanted ad up

What do you have in terms of higher end stuff? Feel free to drop me a pm

Cheers Rob
