I've quite liked the idea of having an ultra compact gun in the arsenal. Don't get me wrong, I love my other rifles to bits and they absolutely have their place, but it would be nice to have the option to travel light (in case size, rifle size and literal weight).

It'll be primarily used as a pester, this time I'm going to buck my recent bias towards .177 and get this one in .22
I'll happily take a hit on shot count for a smaller lighter gun. Weekender bottle lives in the car and ultimately I rarely get through a mag or 2 on my perms anyway. Whilst a short barrel gun is always going to be a noisier beast, some rifles are inherently quieter than others and not just muzzle report. Points awarded for quieter operation.

Currently the Katran SC is winning the race, very light, good pedigree, packs down tiny and from what I've read on here people have loved them for CQ work.

My ears are also pricked by the Ranger XR2 (compact), I always quite liked the look of the ranger XR when it was first released, the second iteration is just as appealing to me. Whilst on paper it packs down smaller, it is a heavier gun and for this reason it's currently behind the katran. However, that could change in the face of further info. I know it's a brand new release but has anyone had any sneak peaks or hands on with this rifle?

Had a quick look at the SP AP900, seems a nice rifle at a really low price point, bigger than the other two, but lets just say it's not for me this time.

Toyed with the idea of a leshiy 2 as well, but the more I look at it, the more it seems like a bad idea. Big chunk of money and not a fan of no UK based supplier/support either.

Anything else I should take a look at consider? any comments on the afore mentioned rifles?

Cheers all!

Maybe look at the pathfinder as a compromise between shot count and size. Probably not as light or small as the Katran or the Ranger, but probably a more flexible rifle.

Pathfinder is a quality backpack gun. Owned one from new and it was faultless, I just prefer my Katran Pro which edges it for me.

Cheers for all the replies everyone. Sorry for the delayed response, I had a shuffle round of some scopes so took the opportunity of a seemingly rare weather break to start getting things zeroed up again!

I would second a pathfinder as a backpack rifle brilliant little things
Thanks guys, it's a sound platform but ultimately I'm trying to fill a bit of a niche hole in my collection, smallest and lightest wins the day (assuming it's still a good rifle!). As long as it gives 3 mags or so I'm more than happy to trade shot count in favour of size and weight. The pathfinder isn't that far off the weight of my ghost carbine but granted it does fold small. I have 2 rat perms on the list, they're not particularly big but very close quarters/tight area's. I often think when I'm down there "if the mito pistol/carbine was full power, it would be amazing here!" so that's the kind of line I'm going down if that makes any sense?

budget gun Kral NP03?
I've already got an NP02 and PB bull pup both needed fettling to get the best out of them. a year or so ago my mate gave me his NP03 for a reg fit and tune. At the end of it, the rifle was amazing to use. However, in this case, it's a bit longer than I'd like and in all honesty I'm just too lazy to go through the tuning process again to get what I want out of it.
A used Leshiy 1 (Classic), the ultimate, most versatile, compact, full power gun ever. 👌
A brilliant suggestion and a gun I've thought about buying on numerous occasions (may very well still do so!)........alas, call me what you will, but multi-shot is a must for me.
It’s shame you are wanting a .22 as there’s a .177 Ranger XR in the sales section at the moment.
My last 4 rifle purchases were all .177. I need to buy a .22 before certain members call my masculinity into question :ROFLMAO:
S410 tdr????
Very nice rifles, looking for something a bit smaller when built though. I've also already got an S410 carbine in .22 so I'm more inclined to spice things up with something different.

Air Arms s510 TDR, but its not as short/small as the gun it replaced, eg: the AA S410 TDR.
Lovely guns though.... (y)

Difficult decision really, best thing is to have a try of everything you can, as not everything will suit you. I have a Ranger XR, (in 177) and a katran CB in 22, I can highly rate them both, but some friends have Pathfinders, and they use them for pest control and love them.

CP2 .22
