Just to add about 17 hmr,you can pick up a good rifle for £100.Factor that in with the price of a 2k air rifle ( not including scope etc as you'd need that for both) and it's a lot of ammunition before the fac air is in the black.My fac air rifles plus charging gear probably come in about the 4k mark excluding scopes so a £100 hmr seems a no brainer,but l enjoy shooting/tinkering with fac air.

Agreed, and would like to point out that the last line of my post #9 was regarding FAC air as an alternative where cost may be a factor, and i was in no way endorsing it as a 100 - 125 yard alternative, because i agree with the above, and don't think it is either.

Going back to first post,I bought a ghost fac in.22.I bought it because it was very adjustable with various power settings and tweakable regulator.the original barrel is chocked so very poor with slugs,I got reasonably good groups with pellets out to 45 yards,after that accuracy dropped right off.so after lots and lots of testing with various power settings and reg adjustments I nearly gave up.last try was a different unchocked barrel.now shooting 23 g slugs out to 80 yards with great accuracy,took me nearly 3 years to get there (obviously didn’t test every week) agree with the max distance quoted above but I think there will be guys on here who shoot at longer distances than I can.

I can shoot my .22 Sub 12 ft/lb BSA Ultra out to 45 yards with acceptable accuracy for hunting…
The only use case I can see for FAC air is where ricochet is a big concern on small areas of ground or in built up areas. But I’d probably opt for Sub 12 and/or other methods of control in that situation personally.
The cost of FAC air compared to rimfire is ridiculous.

100% - and if you posess sub. 12/LR/& HMR you are pretty much in the driving seat for all the usual small critters in the UK
