Hello all,
As the title suggests, can anyone recommend.end a good light 177 pellet for power testing, plinking and probably close range squirrels.
Ideally not looking at jsb prices!

I personally believe, you really can't go wrong with any pellet for close range, but it does depend on what you call close range. I would call close range up to about 15yards.

Run out of jsb rs and figured I'd go for something different and less expensive given intended purpose.

I am the worlds worst for pellet testing, and believe me I have tested some pellets in my time, and one thing I have found is not to get too hung up on FPS or any other measurement, the main thing is if it shoots well and is accurate and keeps at an acceptable amount to keep it legal nothing else matters, far too many people get obsessed with statistics when there is no need, I have one HW100 that is running at an average of 9.7 lb and is just as accurate as my M3 running at 11.6

Good point. I think what I'm badly wording is that I need to have a light pellet at home for testing rifles power to stay legal. After I know I'm not running hot the chrono goes back in the cupboard for a bit. Was looking at econ 2s 7.4grn...hobby look a good bet a 7grn but not used either before.

I don't know what your budget is but in my opinion one of the first things you should invest in is a chronograph, I have two and you don't need to spend a fortune, and they are an essential piece of kit in my eyes.

Bisley LRGs, underrated & usually go well through most springers. Crosman 7.9grs too, if you can find them. For 15 yards or closer, H&N Econs are unbeatable for value at £3 for 500.

RWS Hobbies or JSB Express/RS are most likely to give the highest chrono readings if the gun favours lighter pellets.

For power testing, I've found Webley Mosquito ( re-badged JSB Express) in .177 to be the most efficient pellet in my springers.

I then find the most accurate pellets for my particular guns and use those....... but all guns/barrels may be different.

H&n Excite econ 2 7.4 grains give the highest energy output in my weihrauch barrels which is all my 177. More so than 7.0 grain hobby or 7.3 grain FAP/RS.

Perfectly accurate at 20m on a calm day especially in lower powered airguns.

Honestly try them over chrono! Very efficient pellet and have to tune rifles to accept these at sub 12 👍

These are very good mate forget about the pointy bit they’re pretty accurate in most of my guns 👍 only 7.25g too.

Cheers Tim.
